So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Cooking Help That Will Make Your Food Delicious

By Roxane J. Talisen

Are you a person who loves all kinds of different foods? Do you have a ravenous sweet tooth? Or are spicy ethnic dishes what you crave? Have you ever given thought to what it would take to make these favorite dishes right in your own kitchen? Fortunately, you have found a way to start learning. Use the tips in this article to find out how to cook up some delicious meals.

Tying a turkey with a string is called trussing the turkey. Trussing will cook your bird more evenly when you tie the legs and wings to the bird closely. If the legs and wings aren't tied together, the tips could burn, cooking much more quickly than the main part of the turkey.

Include a variety of colors when you cook. Eating meals that have multiple colors is very healthy for you, and it looks more appetizing as well. Pick nice looking garnishes as well; try tomatoes, cilantro, carrots, or parsley. Put your creativity and imagination to work when choosing colorful foods for your meals, and watch how quickly those meals disappear.

Fix your cracked pie crust! You might have cracks in your crust because you've overworked the dough. Simple sprinkle a little cold water on the cracks and rub and press the dough using your fingertip. Cracks on the top crust can be masked by brushing the crust with milk and sprinkling it with sugar. Baking will cause the sugar to form a beautiful glaze over the top of the pie and make any crust issues disappear.

Make a flavored butter to add a new twist to staples like dinner rolls or ears of corn. Set out butter to warm up to room temperature; you can also quickly soften it in the microwave. Then, give it some zing by adding spices, herbs or sauces. There are many tasty options like honey, salsa and even lemon juice.

Your spices and herbs should always be stored in a cool and dark place. If they are exposed to light, heat or humidity, they will lose much of their flavor. Another little known fact is that ground spices tend to lose their flavor quicker than whole spices. Whole spices are hardier, and will retain their robust flavoring for several years. Spices that are stored correctly remain fresher for longer.

When boiling pasta, salt the cooking water generously. This is so that the seasoning will set into the pasta. Pasta that has been salted after cooking may not retain the flavors used in the seasoning and sauce.

Cooking vegetables for a long time robs them of the critical nutrients that make them a healthy choice. To keep them nutritious, try quickly cooking them, like sauteing or steaming. You can also enjoy them raw.

Instead, set both the oven timer and a watch timer. If you set the timer that's on your wristwatch or on a stopwatch you're carrying, you'll always know when the oven timer beeps, even if you're not within hearing range of it.

If you are just beginning your adventure with home cooking, look online, at a bookstore, or at the library for a cookbook that has simple, easy recipes that you'll take pleasure in both preparing and eating. Try your hand at several recipes that pique your interest, and forgive yourself for any mistakes you may make along the way.

These are great tips that will transform your cooking from boring to fun. Cooking is a fun way to explore the many delicious variations food can take on. As well as food, you can learn a bit about yourself as you begin to learn about the foods that you enjoy cooking. As you choose the dishes you wish to cook and the kinds of meals you wish to create, you will see a new aspect of your personality.
