So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

The Process To Make Pies

By Christina Potter

Sociologists note that skills that were once considered necessary for basic living are now becoming obsolete. As such, rather than make their own pies Orange residents often buy these pastries or go without them. However, when they are inclined to attempt such a recipe, people often have no idea how to begin the process. In fact, they may be surprised to find that it is not a challenge at all.

They must begin by making a crust. To make a crust, they can combine several cups of flour in a bowl with a small amount of salt and a quarter cup of oil or lard. If it is too dry, they can add lukewarm tap water to the mixture.

To make a flour crust, a person can begin by putting two to three cups of all-purpose bleached flour in a bowl. Along with the flour, this individual also can add a teaspoon of salt and a quarter cup of oil or lard. Using a fork or a cutter, the person then can mix the ingredients until is forms small balls the size of pebbles. If it is too dry, people may add a small amount of water to help with mixing it.

With it mixed thoroughly, a person then should take the flour mixture and form a ball with it. Using a rolling pin, the ball of crust should be placed on a floured surface and rolled into a round shape about one-quarter of an inch thin. If a person is making a two crust pie, the ball can be divided into two crusts before it is rolled.

Placing it in the pie pan, people can lift each crust carefully and shape it to the pan's dimensions. Sometimes the edges hang over the edge. If this happens, people can trim it to fit the pan better. A person can then fill the pan with fruit filling, top it with the upper layer, and bake the pie at three hundred fifty degrees for forty five minutes.

A cream pie often uses on layer. The crust can be baked for a half hour until it is browned. When it is cool, the baker may fill it with the cream pudding, place the pastry in the refrigerator to chill it, and then serve it. The process can take about an hour or more.

When they want to make pies Orange residents may not realize that the process is not difficult. Most recipes also do not require a lot of ingredients. As people get busier with their work and social lives, they forget how to prepare their own food.
