So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Using Fondant To Decorate A Beautiful Cake

By Theresa Alvarez

When cake decorating using fondant Los Angeles cake decorators will have the perfect icing to work with. If the decorator understands how to use it, there will be no end to the beautiful things that they can create with it.

Any store that carries cake decorating supplies should have premade fondant icing available for purchase. This icing will come in a box and will need to be unfolded and rolled out on a lightly dusting of cornstarch. This will help to prevent the icing from getting stuck on the flat surface it is being rolled on.

The application of the icing onto the cake can be done once the icing has been rolled to the desired size. In order to keep cake crumbs off of the icing, it is important that buttercream icing be applied to the cake in preparation of the fondant application. The rolled out icing tends to dry quickly, so in order to prevent cracks it is vital that the cake is properly prepped before anything else is done.

The application of this icing might seem to be a bit difficult. However, with a little patience and a careful hand, anyone can apply it by carefully picking it up and simply draping it over the sides of the cake. Using a cake turntable will allow the decorator to rotate the cake around while trimming off the excess icing at the bottom of the cake. Once the excess has been trimmed, the icing will need to be smoothed down over the top and sides of the cake using a fondant smoother tool. This will allow for a perfect and smooth finish.

This icing has many uses, which has helped in its popularity with decorators. One such use is the creation of figurines and animal sculptures that can be used as toppers on the cakes. Many decorators will use these figurines as a method in hiding icing imperfections such as cracks.

Because the premade version can be quite costly, many bakers will make their own out of marshmallows. Although it does take about 25-30 minutes to create the homemade version, the cost savings is well worth the extra time spent on the project.

Whether using the premade or homemade version of fondant Los Angeles decorators are sure to find that this type of icing offers the baker a quick and easy way to decorate a beautiful and professional looking cake.
