So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Do-It-Yourself Convertible Top Replacement Project

By Kathrine Lasseter

Your car restoration is not complete if you will not include your convertible top replacement project to your schedule. The restoration job may be big for amateur restorers, but it is actually not so hard if you are equipped with sufficient skill and inside information on the correct way to restore. To assist you in your restoration job, here are some pieces of advice from professional restorers.

First, find out the type of material that makes the roof of your car and how it is attached to the rest of the vehicle. This will decide the type of supplies and the needed materials you will need. Make an assessment of all the parts that need restoring.

Get all the assistance you need when choosing supplies in the upholstery shops. The supply shop employees should be able to inform you of the advantages and disadvantages of each choice. This is more important to consider for materials than for tools because most roof installation are the same way for most convertibles.

Be prepared to do long hours with the job if you are working alone. A professional with the right equipment and supplies could probably finish replacing the roof in a day. With enough knowledge in basic upholstery and a lot of encouragement, you can probably complete the task over the weekend.

Use vinyl-rubber material for your tack strip lining. This material is ideal to use since it does not take up water and prevents rust-formation in the metal frame. To complete your roof restoration job, consider a trough where water can be stored and a well lining to protect the interior of the car and the trunk from taking in water during heavy rains.

Include in your repair the cylinders and pump that control your roof, if it operates on automatic power. Look for stains of hydraulic fluid below the rear seat, a sure indicator that your cylinder is leaking and needs to be serviced. Some leaks could be easily fixed. Badly damaged cylinders will need immediate replacement.

For pump damage, determine if it can still be repaired. If not, you can buy pump repair kits from your local hardware store. Do the inspection on the weatherstrip and purchase repair kits if needed. Choose high quality kits for the repair jobs. This will save money in the long run.

After completing the supplies, inspect the availability of your essential tools. An air compressor, a glue of high quality, and a staple gun are the tools needed to commence your restoration project. You should also have a good quality primer gun to help you evenly spread the glue. If you have completed this list, you are indeed ready for your convertible top replacement project.
