So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Great Ideas To Help You Make Great Meals!

By Claire F Carlson

Just like there are many ways to skin a cat, there are many ways to cook a good meal. Some cooking is hard and some is not. This article will provide you with easy and efficient tips which will help you to become a better chef with a broad knowledge of techniques.

Avoid overcooking or undercooking a cake. Recommended baking times are just that, recommendations, and can sometimes be misleading because simple things like elevation can change the baking times of the cake. Sticking a toothpick in the center of the cake is a time proven test for doneness. If your toothpick is wet or sticky, give your cake a little longer to cook. If it's clean and dry, your cake is ready to cool and frost.

Stick to recipes you are comfortable with when you are cooking for important company. Do not attempt to take on a fancy new recipe, or use ingredients you have not previously worked with. You will enjoy cooking more if you have greater peace of mind.

If you are frying something, try using ketchup in the batter. In addition to dipping your cooked food in ketchup, it can be utilized as a pre-dip for foods before they are dipped in bread crumbs. Adding ketchup or another sauce will add more flavor to your recipe.

Select potatoes with a thick skin if you are going to make twice baked potatoes. Thin skinned potatoes such as red potatoes are unable to hold most fillings.

As you are cooking, develop a habit of washing your dishes right after you use them. When you are cooking, keep one side of the sink full of water with soap and a clean rinse in the other side. Most bowls, pots, pans and utensils are much easier to clean immediately after they're done being used, and this will ensure that they're ready go if you need them again during the preparation of your meal.

Being highly organized is necessary when you are preparing several dishes at the same time. If not, you are sure to burn or overcook something. A cooking station that is well-organized is more productive. Being disorganized means having difficulty finding things and quite possibly ruining an entire dish, wasting valuable time and money!

When recipes call for wooden skewers, make sure to soak them for half an hour at least before you use them. By soaking, you can prevent the skewers from burning while cooking your food. Prevent softer food from falling into the coals by using two parallel skewers rather than a single one.

Make sure that you never use a wine in your food that you would not normally drink. Using a wine that you dislike could ruin the taste of the food. It is possible to find wines that are meant to be used in cooking.

Buy your garlic as fresh as possible for any dish that needs the flavorful ingredient. Garlic is normally sweeter when it is fresh. If it isn't soft, bruised or shriveled and it has some firm skin then you know that the garlic is fresh.

Your butter should always be soft before you cream them with sugar when you bake cookies. If the butter is melted, put it in the freezer for several minutes until it hardens, or put the prepared dough in the refrigerator. Your dough will spread the right amount if the dough is cooler.

You can cut cinnamon rolls very easily. Sometimes it is difficult to cut the roll into small slices before baking. Instead of using a knife, cut the dough with a piece of strong thread. Place the thread underneath the roll in the location where you desire to cut. Bring the threads around the side, cross the threads on the top and pull both ends in the reverse direction. This will give you perfect individual cinnamon rolls!

Constantly learning about new things in cooking is exciting! Not only is it exciting, but wait til you try the food! Remember the tips you have just learned to try new things next time you are cooking. Even professional chefs can learn new recipes and cooking techniques.
