So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas

The History And Significance Of The Kubelwagen

By Dianne Crane

The Kubelwagen was originally designed for use by the German army in around 1934. This vehicle gets its name from its similarity in looks to a metal tub. The name literally means for tub truck. This vehicle was put to significant use by the German army inits various models.

The design of this vehicle was founded on the Volkswagen beetle. It went by a few different names when it was originally designed. It was known as the type 62 originally. It then came to be known as the type 82.

Even though it was built for the German army it was actually manufactured by a firm that was owned by a United States company. This is vehicle served the same utility for the German army as the jeep served for the American army. There is evidence to indicate that it actually influenced the manufacture of the jeep.

The designer of this car was they founder of the company that is now known today as the Porsche company. Production of this car was a subject of discussion between Ferdinand Porsche Adolf Hitler in the early part of 1934. After the initial discussions it took a very short time the vehicle to be ready for production.

The idea behind the prototype step it was to be cheap as well as very lightweight. The design of this vehicle was primarily to serve the military. The vehicle was to be designed to operate in all terrains. Additionally it was to operate and all conditions.

Originally the vehicle was manufactured as a 2 Wheel Dr. Automobile. In spite of the fact that it was only two wheel drive automobile the performance of this automobile was far superior to those of other militaries at the time. All the expectations that were made of this vehicle were met.

There were several developments with respect to the vehicles design as well as its utility prior to its use in World War II. The popularity of this vehicle was evident both at the higher levels as well as at the lower levels of the military. There were additional improvements made to the Kubelwagen while it was in use. Some of these were specific to the speed of the Kubelwagen.

All developmental designs to the automobile were made with the satisfaction of the German military in mind. As a result the German military made significant use of this vehicle. Some of the designs were so specific such as the reduction of the vehicles speed to keep the pace of soldiers marching by foot.

The superiority of this automobile was so advanced that there were efforts made by American companies to dissect in order to understand what made it so superior. There is evidence that the United States military made efforts to deny the superiority of this vehicle. This evidence can be found in US military manuals.

Kubelwagen was given new life By the Volkswagen company well after the war ended. The Kubelwagen was resurrected for both the United States market as well as the German armed forces as a client. The vehicle had different names depending upon the market for which it was manufactured
