So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Redesigning Your Kitchen: Here Are Some Must-Do Items

By Vickie Daeley

The kitchen is one of those special areas in our home where everyone wants to be. This welcoming spot deserves much consideration during a redesign, so be sure to think about the following items if you are planning on updating your kitchen space.

While you might have a fantastic sense of style, tackling the kitchen makeover is difficult and time consuming, so one of the best ways to keep stress and chaos away is by hiring a professional interior decorator. Your designer or design team will tackle all of the steps of the design process, leaving you with your dream kitchen. The cost is usually quite affordable, especially when you consider that decorators know where to find the highest quality items at the lowest possible prices.

Lighting is important in every room of your house, especially in a kitchen, because you really need light in order to cook. Natural light is fantastic, so you definitely want to consider maximizing your sunlight. This might mean adding a window over the sink or moving cabinets to ensure that there is no blockage. However, you obviously need a light scheme for nighttime, so be sure that you have enough lighting and that it is aimed to provide maximum exposure.

A kitchen is a space where one must work to prepare meals, so there needs to be a good workspace as well as a place to put pots, pans and other cooking essentials. A good kitchen design includes an uncluttered work surface that is large enough and convenient. If your kitchen is small, this can be tricky, but a designer can be very helpful in pointing out how moving cabinets or appliances can create a workstation. You also can make a kitchen look larger by choosing materials that are lighter in color.

To make your kitchen truly special, select one unique element and center your design around this special focal point. It might an awesome oven hood or an amazing retro oven or perhaps exposed bricks behind the stove. It is a good idea to have just one really cool element and keep everything else fairly simple. This doesn't mean you can't use interesting fixtures and faucets, but typically every room of the house has one main element that will draw the eye instantly.

Appliances are important, so be sure you do the necessary research to ensure that the items you purchase are the best possible quality. You also should not mix styles, so stick with all white or perhaps all stainless steel. If you want to mix, consider a built-in fridge that matches your cabinetry, a cool oven range and then stick with a simple stainless design for the dishwasher, microwave and wine fridge. Be sure to ask your designer about different appliance brands and ask what models have gotten the best reviews from past clients.
