So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Tips For Choosing The Right Amount Of Wine For A Special Occasion

By David Dienger

Most adult parties also include alcoholic beverages for the attendees. Whether one is celebrating a milestone is his or her own life or that of someone else, it can be fun to have a party. Many party planners that do great in every other aspect of preparation often find the part of the event to be most troublesome is choosing the right amount of wine for a special occasion.

All kinds of parties may call for spirits. Some of the more common one may be asked about include an office retirement party and a wedding. While these two represent different ends of life, the method to choose remains the same.

The Right Amount to Purchase

This is easier to calculate using ratios. For example, each bottle will yield five 5 ounce servings. While this will not fill them to the brim, it is a good, solid serving. Therefore, every 12 bottles provides about 60 glasses. With 30 in attendance, this calculates to 2 glasses for each individuals, a good number for an hour in a business setting. In social settings the number may need to bumped to three drinks per person per hour. In addition, plan to have more than will actually be used.

Consider the Ratio of Whites to Reds?

For years, event planners have used a 1:2 ratio of whites to reds. However, as people are moving to the lighter whites, it does not hurt to up the ration to 2:3 bottles. In addition, individuals who know their guests can also change this ratio as needed to meet the requirements of the guests.

Can I Find Choices in my Budget?

If concerned about cost, look at less expensive products from Portugal, Spain, Southern France or Chile. Remember it is more expensive to make better wines so the manufacturer must pass these costs along. Parties at the office do well with easy going wines. In big social events, pair the selection with the meal.

Liquor Permits May Be Required

In Canada, a liquor permit is required if alcohol is served outside a personal residence or licensed establishment. They can be purchased there for a nominal fee. A more expensive permit is required if the drinks are being sold. Be sure to check local regulations where planning the party to ensure the fun is not ruined by the lack of a license.

Even though you may keep a bottle in the basement yearning for release, it is also nice to buy a case occasionally for everyday use. This can also ensure one has plenty for an impromptu event at home or a bottle to take to a friend's home. If interested in building a cellar, replace each bottle opened with two more. This will help to build a well stocked cellar in no time.

The top hint for choosing the right amount of wine for a special occasion is to use ratios. By comparing the number of guests, time the celebration will run and number of drinks per bottle and per hour, the calculation is simple. This will ensure you do not run short.

Here's to you.
