So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Making Shattered Glass For Marble Jewlery

By Liliana Mills

Marbles have been a popular item used as beads in jewelry for decades. The shattered glass appeal creates a gem like sparkling diamond effect. Shattered, or "fried, " they create stunning effects in marble jewelry displays.

Artists, over time, have also learned the heating and cooling process required in marble frying to create the desired shattering. By doing so, they have put together delicate and intrinsically unique displays of jewelry art. Many use the simple procedure of heating the marbles on their own home stoves.

With the popular hobby of jewelry making, many hobbyists are learning the spectacular results of pieces made using hand-made beads. As such many are learning to cook beads and have taken up the skill of fried marbles. By doing so they create a truly unique result, which holds a piece of themselves within it.

Before beginning the heating process make sure you have collected glasses or goggles, have placed them firmly on your face. Collect plastic gloves, a heat pad, and a utensil to place the marbles in the ice water. Prepare ice water enough to cover the marbles.

Make sure also before you begin to place a pair of glasses or goggles around your eyes. Plastic gloves and heat pad is a good idea, as is a utensil to remove the marbles from the pan. A dry, flat skillet should be used, big enough to place the marbles in a single layer. Heat should be medium to high. Marbles should be turned often while frying.

Do not place liquids or oils in plan while marbles are frying. This is not safe. The skillet should be dry when cooking. Allow 15-20 minutes to cook. Using oil is a safety concern since this could cause marbles to explode with spattering oil. If you did not already put your ice water in the pan do so as the marbles are frying.

Once they have fried for the set time, remove them and place the marbles into the ice water. This is where the shattering effect will take place. When the marbles go from hot to cold water they will instantly shatter. Amount of shattering will depend on how hot they became in the frying pan.

If you are unsure how to fry marbles safely you can consult a professional, or buying them at a stores is also fairly easy. If you do it yourself, try not to bend over the pot too much and also refrain from pouring the marbles into the ice water. Lower them into the water by the utensil to prevent the possibility that one might burst and glass might go into the air. Set aside until they cool.

After they become cool they can now be placed into popular marble jewelry settings, applied to bracelets, trendy rings, and pin sets. You can also use them as a gem charm, on a fashionable key chain, and apply to sparkle and good luck chains for cell phones.
