So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

There Are Many Established Sod Farms In Montana

By Lucille Lamb

The suburban population has kept demand strong for turf. There are many sod farms in Montana, one of the leading states for its production. Many of these have been operating for decades. Some have an online website, others do not.

Montana is one of the main producers of turfgrass because the state has ample open spaces and gently sloping hills. Ideal growing conditions exist as the weather is moderate. It is not either too hot or too cold. Turf grown here may be installed during any period of the year. It can even be installed on frozen ground, while seeds for a DIY lawn are planted during the spring or fall seasons.

The little time it takes to establish a lawn this way is the reason for its enduring appeal. For some home owners the cost is an issue that keeps them away from utilizing this product. But, it is not as costly as it may seem. It does not require the effort of nurturing seedlings. It can be enjoyed almost as soon as it is laid down. There is no reason to reseed patches to fix patchy lawn development. Whereas, a seeded lawn takes up to a year to be fully developed, a readymade product has no such limitation. This professionally farmed turf product reduces time and the effort and expenses involved in growing your own lawn from scratch.

No special care is required as the turfgrass has been 12 months or more in the making. With a professionally farmed product, there is no need to nurture a lawn to maturity. After harvesting, farmers cut turfgrass into rolls or squares to prepare it for sale. The hard work of farmers takes the need for such hard work away from their customers. As a result their customers may have their lawn installed in a few hours. Turf requires less water seeded grass. It can be walked on within 3 or 4 days and is established within a week. A family can play on it with a period of 10 to 14 days.

A home owner can decide whether to install turf slabs or rolls. The choice will depend on individual situations. If you need limited grass coverage or need to accommodate trees or shrubs, slabs are easier to lay down. If you want to do it yourself to save money, slabs are easier to use. Often the weight is less than twenty pounds per piece. But, they will require more time and need to be installed quickly to prevent contraction. This matters as you will want to create smooth ridges.

When coverage of a large area with few obstructions is required, rolls are optimal. It is much quicker to install a roll. But, professional assistance is more suitable for this job. Professional landscapers must have experience in this task. A forklift must be used for the quick and even installation of a roll.

By installing, you add market value to your property and reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the same time. The heat island effect is mitigated, energy consumption is reduced and home owners help to reduce global warming by installing a lawn. Lawns have a cooling effect and are much cooler than bare soil or pavement. Lawns absorb carbon dioxide, release oxygen, filter and reduce noise.

The products of the sod farms in Montana bring curb appeal to your home and garden areas. Local farms may also supply grasses native to your area, if that is your preference. Within a week or even less time, your home can have readymade grass without the extra work need to grow grass from seedlings.
