So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Contemporary Interior Design

By Anita Hale

We are going to examine some of the do's and don'ts of modern interior design. Many people want to create a contemporary interior in their living space. However, there is a misconception that this means having a look of black furniture and furnishings. This is not actually the case. In fact, the opposite could be said to be true. Contemporary interior design is actually about creating a lightness and feeling os pace within our home.

Let us start by examining the issue of flooring. It is very popular these days to have exposed floorboards. This creates a nice feeling of fluidity and clean lines. You can jazz up the room and add a touch of colour by using adding rugs. These rugs should carry a modern design. They will also help absorb some of the noise that wooden floorboards will create when left bare.

Another useful material to use in contemporary interior design is stainless steel. This can be used to great effect in creating a sleek and polished look. You don't have to go overboard with it. However, it can serve a s great way to add a little bit of extravagance to your room. Use them for your switch plates or other electrical fixtures. It's also ideal for lighting fixtures and even free standing lamps.

Now we shall talk about the kind of furniture that would suit a contemporary home. Back in the 1980s it was highly fashionable to have black leather furniture. However, it is recommended to actually go for a more neutral tone if you want to keep with the leather couch trend. In addition, you can accessorize your three-piece-suite with colourful cushions. Alternatively, why not have a look at some signatures sixties pieces of furniture? The ball chair is a classic example of retro furniture that is every bit as popular today. This chair is the shape of a sphere that has been cut in half and has a swivel base. Adding retro pieces such as this can really make a statement to your room.

When it comes to tables, glas can add an extra dimension to your design. Obviously, having a glass table has practical implications that mean it won't be suitable for every household. Fibreglass tables of striking design are another option. However, if you want to steer away from manmade materials, then we recommend trying a Norwegian inspired sixties design. These often feature slim and tapered table legs with elegant table-tops. The simplicity of their design will sit well in a minimalist designed interior.

And now a final word about what to do with your walls. Your best bet is to hang some pieces of contemporary art. It does not matter if these are original pieces, prints or just framed posters. The important part is to hang the piece on an area large enough to accommodate its size. You will want to make sure the wall in question has a degree of incoming light. This will ensure that people can actually see the artwork. However, you should never hang art in direct sun light as it will eventually deteriorate and get discoloured.
