So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Footstool Or Ottoman - Which Is Better?

By Eric Armstrong

When it comes to household accessories which showcase your living room aesthetic, a footstool or ottoman is a modest item which could make a huge difference. Largely exchangeable from a purely functional perspective, you will find nevertheless quite a few small particulars which can sway your choice when choosing either item for your living space. So in case you are planning to accessorise this season, here is a quick guide on just what to look for when making your choice.

No matter whether you eventually opt for a footstool or ottoman largely is determined by the style of your existing living room . As a secondary product as opposed to a standalone piece, footstools take their visual cues from more substantial home furniture including sofas and chairs. As a general rule, footstools convey a far more standard, formal look so it's best to couple them with more classic sofa designs. In contrast, ottomans work a lot more effectively in modern or contemporary surroundings, particularly in bright striking fabrics. Naturally, this really is some thing of a simplification, but as a rule of thumb it is massively important to think about the style of your existing furniture when putting either of these products within a room .

The second key aspect to consider when making a selection are the dimensions of the interior space as well as the overriding style of the home. For period buildings, you will normally be working with low ceilings, formal area divisions and original features which will restrict your options when it comes to furniture arrangement. In such circumstances, it may be preferable to think about a footstool which may be folded away and placed into storage. Huge ottomans are probably going to be unthinkable in this environment as they will come to take control of the room , producing a confined atmosphere that will disturb the essence of your interior look.

In contemporary homes and apartments you will typically be working with light, roomy surroundings where the furniture choice itself gives personality to the area. Within this type of setting large ottomans can truly come into their own, especially when combined with a modern modular sofa. More traditional footstools don't really work here as they look like a throwback to a former period. In contrast, smaller sized cube-shaped ottomans can genuinely come into their own as the space invites you to construct a far more complete room set then you might otherwise have been in a position to. One popular arrangement would be to setup a large ottoman as a centrepiece table with several cubes in surrounding positions.

Ultimately, both ottomans and footstools are meant to add a finishing touch to a well thought-through and highly considered area . Making the correct decision is as a result essential in terms of completing the look, like a last jigsaw piece within the puzzle. With any luck, these quick pointers have provided food for thought around the topic, but should you remain undecided about the way to complete the look, seek out the services of an interior design consultant who can guide you in the appropriate direction and recommend suitable room sets which you might desire to try out in your space.
