So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Making Gourmet Jams The Right Way

By Catalina Nielsen

It is possible to prepare gourmet jams from foods that are of a high quality and exotic ingredients. They act as treats for the taste buds and also maintain the health and shape of the body. There are some specially skilled chefs who have mastered the art of putting them together and there are several examples listed below together with their various methods of preparing them.

To make a jam from passion fruit and pineapple, one would require having pineapples, pulp from passion fruit, ground nutmeg, cinnamon, sugar and allspice. The recipe is always simple but the tricky part is the timing which requires some skill. It would come in handy when deciding the time taken to cook and simmer the mixture. You should also avoid letting it burn as it should not have that burnt taste.

When it turns to the desired consistency, it ought to be removed from the source of fire. It should be allowed to cool off for a considerable amount of time. The next step would be to store the cooled mixture in clean glass jars.

It is also possible to make chilli jam as it is another gourmet, although it is not a fruit it is still considered as jam. The ingredients include garlic and onions which ought to get sauteed until they change to a transparent color. The seeds of the chillies should be removed and the tops cut off before they are introduced to the mixture and the cooking continues until they turn soft.

Tamarind paste and some fish sauce should be mixed with some sugar and added to the cooking pot. After simmering for a number of minutes it should be removed from fire and let to cool. The moment it gets cool, it should be poured in a food processor which would then blend it to form a jam consistency. Storage should be in jars for use sometimes in the future.

Fruit salad jam is another type that could be made at home, you would require some exotic fruits like papaya, kiwi, pineapple, pomegranate, banana, apple, orange and grapefruit. The sugar ought to be there otherwise it would not be jam. This combination should be cooked until it becomes thick and reaches the consistency desired.

After it cools down it should be placed in clean sealed containers for safe storage. The refrigerator would come in handy in this case. Experimenting with other ingredients is possible in order to discover more types. The limiting factors would be the skill one possesses and the quality of the materials to be used for the preparation.

All the above methods are very instrumental in preparation of gourmet jams for either home use or for commercial purposes. These types of homemade jam offer a cheap way of enjoying it without buying the expensive brands produced by the various industries thereby saving lots of money. They are also healthy and safe for human consumption as no chemical is added to them during the time of making them. Having no chemicals in them is great as it reduces chances of getting diseases like cancer and they are easily digested. The skill could also be developed into a profit making venture.
