So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas

Participating In A Defensive Driving Course In Winston Salem NC Is A Worthwhile Endeavor

By Katrina Wheeler

Defensive training for drivers is pursued by many individuals who want to prevent accidents, improve their skills on the highway, or learn more about personal and legal responsibility when operating a motor vehicle. Such courses teach techniques that help individuals avoid collisions or other types of negative incidents involving other automobiles. For this reason, graduating from a defensive driving course in Winston Salem NC is a wise course of action for essentially anyone.

The National Safety Council Committee created the first course of this kind in the 1960s. It was initially named the Driver Improvement Program. In 1964 in Toledo Ohio, the first eight hour defensive driving class was offered. Since that time, such programs have undergone numerous changes, and have even been modified for use in branches of the U. S. Army and international markets.

Essentially anyone can enroll in instructor led courses of this type. Age groups for such classes typically include younger drivers from 15 to 24 years of age, and senior citizens. Programs geared toward teenagers encourage parental involvement for the purpose of preventing accidents that occur due to reckless behavior such as speeding, or the use of drugs or alcohol. In some instances, parents attend such courses with their children to help them digest the information and encourage at-home discussions after the class has commenced.

Among very common mistakes concerning young drivers are being tempted to speed or drive while intoxicated with drugs or alcohol. Senior drivers on other hand may fail to yield right of way, neglect to use turn signals, and choose an inappropriate lane for he speed at which they are traveling. Most programs are created to address common mistakes made by each age group.

Such courses focus on accident prevention. This is because the American Safety Council states that about forty thousand driver perish each year in motor vehicle collisions and injuries are sustained by millions more. Numerous accidents result from motorists operating a car when drunk, and many are speed related.

Defensive driving training teaches motorists how to look for obstacles in the road and maintain a safe distance between their vehicle and the one they are following. Such courses also cover when a motorist is obligated to yield the right-of-way to another driver, and how to be aware of hazardous surroundings. Most courses also briefly address state specific laws that drivers may have forgotten or of which they may have never been aware.

Anticipating risk is an important topic addressed in essentially every defensive training course. After completing the course, motorists will know how to look ahead for risks, which in turn will prevent them from overcompensating should an unexpected event occur on a street or highway. Weather-specific tips are also covered in such courses, including the best ways to maintain safety when driving on wet or icy roads.

Numerous programs are available for motorists who want to enhance their skills. Comparison-shopping is wise prior to enrolling in a specific course. Ultimately, one's risk of having an accident or similar incident is greatly reduced when he or she enrolls in a defensive driving course in Winston Salem NC.
