So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Selecting The Best Faux Wood Blinds

By Allyson Burke

Today, real and faux wood blinds are among the top selling window and door coverings. There are numerous reasons for their popularity. Hanging solo or in combination with curtains, the best faux wood blinds provide many beautiful decorative options as well as many practical benefits.

The decision of which window cover option to choose is based on a compilation of relevant information. Before selecting one type of coverage over another, wise consumers consider design coordination, lighting effect, influence on the air temperature in the room, availability of the necessary sizes and preferred colors, and various other factors. The cost and warranty of the product often plays an important role, also.

Those made of real hardwood and the best faux wood blinds offer several advantages over less expensive window covering alternatives. They are both available in a variety of sizes and colors to complement any interior design. Both types will visually enhance the exterior of the home, also. In addition to providing beauty and privacy, they can be used effectively to help reduce energy costs all year round.

Several different kinds of hardwood are used to make different brands of real wooden slats. They might be stained, painted or left their natural color to suit any taste. A variety of materials are used to manufacture the imitation slats. Vinyl, polymers, recycled materials and other composites are used to produce a look- a-like product. These slats are more resistant to moisture and sun damage than the real slats. Consumers can choose from a lot of different finishes and colors to match trim, furnishings or decorative accents. Arched styles are available from many makers, also.

Today, doors and windows are made in a wide variety of styles and sizes. The best faux wood blinds can be purchased in standard sizes and custom made to fit almost any door or window area. Two to three and one half-inch wide slats are commonly available. Some manufacturers produce one inch slats to fit certain coverage needs. Selecting the proper size is important for appearance and efficiency. Wider slats work best for large areas and smaller slats are better for small areas.

Energy conservation, natural lighting and the overall room appearance are affected by the slat width. The design and method of control play a part in their overall effectiveness. Many styles are designed with ladders, or strings that run through the slats, to raise and lower them. This design allows small streams of light to enter the room through the holes. Some designs use fabric strips to hide the holes and block out the light. Other styles have the ladders running behind the slats, eliminating the holes and the light streams.

In the past, these types of window covers were only manually operated. Today, there are motorized versions available. They can be operated with wall switches and remote controls. Recently, more advanced options have emerged with the Cbus and smart home systems.

Comparatively, the best faux wood blinds are less expensive and more durable than real wooden coverings. Although the initial expense will usually be higher than buying traditional curtains or mini-blinds, consumers can view the purchase as a wise investment that will pay off, in numerous ways, over time.
