So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Practical Ways Of Maintaining Outdoor Wicker Furniture

By Judy Sullivan

Outdoor chicago wicker furniture is a favorite among homeowners. Besides its functionality and comfort, it is also the most durable material available. The synthetic materials do not bend or rust, unlike the steel. Its elasticity also makes it possible to yield to every design imaginable. Not to mention its natural beauty. Most of all, rattan is exceptionally comfortable.

This is indeed a sound investment for any homeowner. The articles can endure decades of extreme use even when placed outside. It can withstand direct sunlight, humidity, wear and tear, and inclement weather better than all other materials. If you want to lengthen the lifetime of your investment, here are some pointers in taking care of the furnishings.

It is a given that regular cleaning helps maintain the quality of the articles. When dirt, grime and dust add up, not only does your furniture look awful but it degrades its sturdiness, too. You need to thoroughly clean the articles, particularly along its crevices. You may use a vacuum that has a brush attachment for this purpose.

Cleaning the wicker can be different from cleaning other furniture, though. The wickers are intricately weaved, so there are areas that are difficult to reach. You may use a mixture of warm water and mild soap in cleaning. Do not wet the reeds too much to avoid water damage. Instead, you can use a soft dampen cloth. Use a toothbrush to brush off dirt between the gap of the crevices.

Watch out for water damage. When the wicker gets wet too often, its quality may be subverted. Moisture may cause the material to warp or mildew. Protect your furnishings from harsh elements. A porch, roofed patio or veranda can protect the articles from rain. Avoid using wet wickers, too. Wet reeds bend, so added weight may cause irreparable damages and distortion.

Ironically, too little moisture may cause the reeds to break down. Dryness causes the material to become brittle. Therefore, you also have to replenish the lost moisture before the article gets completely dried up. Wet the wickers then place them under a shade and allow to dry. For added shine, boiled linseed oil can be used. Re-moisturize the articles no less than once a year.

It also helps when you use a cushion on the articles. Besides the comfort its provides, it can also prevent loosening of the weave. It is also more practical to replace the cushion instead of buying a new set of articles. With firm and intact frame, you can always replace the cushioning when you feel like it.

Bear in mind that the wickers are prone to damage nonetheless. Despite its durability, improper use can damage the materials. Do not leave the furniture outside for long periods of time. Excessive exposure to sun, rain and snow causes serious deterioration. If the weather looks bad, bring the articles inside or use a covering.

All in all, chicago wicker furniture is definitely an asset. Since this is expected to last long, it can be passed on from one generation to the next. However, you should be prudent enough to protect the articles from natural deterioration. Take proper care of the articles if you want to extend its lifetime.
