So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Lift Covers Safely Using A Manhole Cover Lifter

By Luisa Sharpe

Lifting manholes covers using a manhole cover lifter includes clearing the receipt notches and then engaging portion of the covers against the reinforcement braces in order to pull out. Manholes are well known in systems such as sewers and they are used for in-ground installations. In order for technicians and other workers to gain access to the underground channels, they first have to remove the covers.

Covers for manholes remain undisturbed for extended periods, something that makes them difficult to open. The covers embed themselves to the seating frame. If you try opening them without using a mechanized tool, they probably cannot open. The heavy traffic passing over the covers puts pressure and makes them strongly embedded on the frame or seatings.

When pressure from traffic is coupled with corrosion, it makes things very difficult. The metallic covers and frames of manholes hold together and increase the grip thus making it very hard to pull them up out. For safety reasons, you need to use tools that can allow you life the covers easily. Manual lifting can cause serious muscle and joint sprains.

The moment you come to open them you will experience challenges. The traditional way of thumping the manholes covers using a sledge hammer can be disastrous and injurious. You may achieve the desired results of opening covers but then again, you will risk incurring costs in terms of damaged or broken covers.

When you thump such covers using those crowbars and sledge hammers, you will most probably put undesirable force on the covers. You can easily break them because if you miss and the hammer lands on the metallic cover, it can break it apart. This can lead to liabilities if you are working on a project in a household or commercial property.

Your business may be compelled to pay for the damage. In addition, the thumping and lifting of the hammers may also lead to strains or impact injuries. The person wielding the hammer can suffer from back injuries and spraining of arm muscles and joints. If the hammer slips from the crowbar head, it could disastrously hit the feet and toes causing very serious injuries.

To protect the employees and prevent ugly incidents from happening, you need to ensure that you use tools that are safe in opening covers. The lifters come in all sizes, shapes, and mechanical operations. The most common features you will find in these lifters are a form of lifting key. The lifting keys are designed to fit into slots of the manholes covers. There are others that are designed using a magnet, which is attached to the lifting system.

You not only need less workforce but also minimal time to complete the tasks. The time spent struggling to open covers for the technicians to access manholes and inspection chambers can significantly be reduced. Because you want to achieve the greatest efficiency in performance of tasks, you need to have tools that can make your work easier such as the manholes cover lifters.
