So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

How To Create A Rustic Country Home Decor

By Anita Ortega

People are recognizing the role interior design plays in how it affects people's moods. Whatever the case, people should decorate their own homes according to what they like and what makes them feel comfortable. Below are some tips to successfully creating a rustic country home decor without breaking the bank.

Rustic design is known to make people feel comfortable and cozy. It gives people that feeling of warmth, like a cottage up in the mountains, and it can be just as easy to do right in the city. What's more is that it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. Quite simply, most of the place can be furnished by shopping at moving sales, garage sales, and flea markets.

When properly planned out and furnished, the outcome is charming and endearing. To do this, natural woods should be aged, even if the piece is brand-new. Lines have to be simple without any fussiness, and no one should ever feel uncomfortable about putting their feet up in this modest design scheme.

As in a cottage, wood floors would be a primary requirement. However, they should not be highly polished and instead, be waxed or even painted. It's always wise to use Oriental rugs that provide warmth, color, texture, and pattern. Sprinkle as many or as few handcrafted objects as possible, and choose furniture that is ideally made of pine. The furniture can have some hand-painted adornments of country scenery or flowers, for example.

A rocking chair would definitely be an asset, and other seating should be in the form of wicker furniture or ladder backed chairs. Benches are also extremely popular in this design scheme. Tables of any kind should be somewhat rough looking. What ever the piece, it should have an old, weathered appearance.

To complete the look, it's vital to add the right type of accessories. Choose baskets to house plants, embroidery, firewood, or even loose photographs. Hurricane and oil lamps are also good choices. The lighting is very important, and should be in keeping with the design scheme. It's recommended to choose wrought-iron or brass finishes for wall sconces and chandeliers that are simple.

Neutral tones are what this design scheme is all about. One can also incorporate reds, blues, as well as greens. Be careful not to go too far with color, however, meaning not to use too many as it can be too busy. Instead, stay within the limitations of two or three colors to be safe.

When it comes to bedrooms, choose a quilt as a bed cover because it is very true to this design scheme. Place a weathered trunk just at the foot of the bed, and for headboard, an inexpensive solution is a recycled old door. With a bigger budget, an antique brass headboard would do the trick. Also, consider the use of open shelves which can house more than just personal items and go further to demonstrate the design with rustic accessories.

A plate rack and a butcher's rack make excellent additions to a kitchen. If there is room add a butcher block island for functionality and practicality. Top off the look with a beautiful large pine table and opt for mismatched chairs.
