So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Is It A Good Idea To Use Snow Tires?

By George Dodson

After completing my college education I moved up to the northeast with my trusty truck. I didn't have much idea about driving on snow as I have always lived in warmer locations. The first winter was extremely bad. To me a front wheel drive was more than enough to cope with normal situation, my truck did not have 4 wheel drive. The case was not the same in the first winter. I rented an apartment located on the top of a hill before the snow fall started.

On normal days getting out of the driveway and going in was not an issue. It became difficult to get out of the driveway during the second snowfall. Coming out of the driveway was not a big problem. Coming up the driveway was like a nightmare. I don't even remember how many times I got stuck with my vehicle. The ice has made the driveway look like an ice rink and the top was quite slick. I took a running start to come up the driveway without even stopping once.I moved up without even getting stuck. But with the passing days the driveway became more and more packed with ice. My truck would get stuck near the garage gate. At night I had to dig the truck to get inside.

The condition of my tires were bad by the time the snow melted. The local tire shop had a large selection of tires, but there were so many tires to choose from. I wanted to make the best bargain as I was a budget-loving customer. Thankfully when this tire salesperson explained to me that all season tires really are not the best for driving in the snow. He suggested to use performance tires during the summer months and then shift to winter ones later.

At first I thought he was trying to make me buy an extra set of tires. But later I found out that most of the drivers actually opt for two sets of tires. Performance tires were great for driving on dry roads were useless in snow. The winter tires have special treads that made driving so much easier but could be put easily lose their tread during the hot summer months. Switching back and forth allowed you to have the best tires no matter what the season.

No matter what tires all season tires you get, none will perform in winter as a well as an average set of cooper winter ones. You will be able to save a lot of money this way. Two sets used consecutively would not last as long when compared to two sets of tires. The shop also gave me information about the rebates available online. I patiently waited for another rebate offer during the coming months. The next year, I didn't face any problem getting my car up to the driveway.
