So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

The Perfect Seasoning For Bloody Mary

By Miranda Sweeney

One of the most popular cocktails ever, a Bloody Mary, contains vodka and tomato juice as basic components. Many other spices and flavorings are often added, for example Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, Tabasco, olives, salt, lemon juice and celery stalk. Different bartenders make their own mixtures using all kinds of seasoning for Bloody Mary, creating their own recipes.

This popular cocktail is usually made using three parts of vodka, six parts of tomato juice and one part of lemon juice. The glass should be dashed with Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, salt and pepper, and filled with ice cubes. The mixture should be poured over ice, stirred gently and served with celery stalk. It is often garnished with a piece of lemon wedge as well.

Because so many people believe that it will cure their hangover, this cocktail is very popular. It does contain water, electrolytes and anti-oxidants, and could help you with this problem, but alcohol is not so effective in curing hangovers. It is not really clear how and when it was invented, but the story tells that it was originally made with equal parts of vodka and tomato juice. Other components were added later on.

Some people prefer adding beef consomme, or some other unusual flavors. Most people enjoy restaurant style cocktail. There are so many different spices you can experiment with, for example all types of pepper, different sauces, olives and aromatic salts. Even so, Worcestershire and Tabasco are the most popular ingredients, together with salt, pepper, lemon and horseradish.

The exact combination of necessary ingredients isn't always easy to achieve in your home. You can experiment with your favorite spices, or you can use prefabricated seasoning mixtures. Together with already prepared rimming salts, they are made of all-natural ingredients to provide that authentic restaurant taste you want to achieve. Your cocktails will always be perfect, with so little effort.

So, if you prefer authentic restaurant style, use so called classic mixture. You just have to mix tomato juice, vodka and prescribed amount of seasoning in a glass, garnish it with celery stalk, and your job is done. In this specific mixture you will find Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, red pepper, black pepper, salt, garlic and horseradish. Of course, you can find different mixtures, for example with more intensive taste.

Rimming salts are made with red and black pepper, alder smoked sea salt, celery salt and some other components. Some mixtures contain hickory-smoked, vegetarian friendly bacon salt. These special mixtures will add something unusual and particularly tasty to your drinks, but you can also improve the taste of your food if you sprinkle some on it.

These nicely balanced flavors are really easy to use, and you can add exactly enough to suit your taste. Available in smaller and larger packages, they can be safely stored in your refrigerator, always ready to help you prepare your favorite drink. You just have to add your favorite tomato juice and one good quality vodka brand. So, prepare large glasses and some ice cubes, and enjoy.
