So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Sulkies And The Jerald Sulky Company

By Dominique Martin

Sulkies are light two-wheeled carts in which a single driver sits behind the horse. These carts became popular in the United States before the American Revolution as way to get quickly from one place to another. They were fairly light in weight and easy on the horse, so they were particularly popular with tradesmen, doctors, and others who needed to travel some distance during the day. The Jerald Sulky Company began making sulkies as early as 1890 and they are still making them today.

The heavy contraptions of the past had huge wooden wheels and the driver was seated up high. When pneumatic tires were invented, this all changed and sulkies became much lighter. They were more aerodynamic and so their speed increased. The design continued to improve over the years and these vehicles came to be used more for harness racing than transportation.

Of the few manufacturers of sulkies in the U. S. Today, one of them is the company established by Samuel Sulky. He designed his first cart because a friend asked him to do so and this design quickly became popular. Soon Samuel was able to begin producing his carts full time. In 1898 he was able to set up a small factory in Waterloo.

Many years later this company is continuing to produce vehicles that are safe, high performance and beautiful to look at. Many different types of carts are available for purchase online. On the website, images of vehicles and all their specifications can be viewed. Miniature show vehicles, pony and horse show carts, training and racing ones as well as runabouts are available.

Customers have various choices when it comes to the construction of the carts. The shafts, for example, are offered in different lengths. Deluxe chrome can be used for the undercarriage at an extra cost.

Each cart is painted and hand striped to specification. Customers have different color options for their cart, pinstripes, cushions and covers. The carts come in various colors from cobalt blue and maroon to dark green. Pinstripes are silver, gold, white and more. Even the fabric for cushions can be selected with vinyl, corduroy and velvet options.

The price of items varies and is also affected by the choices made. For example, choosing a deluxe chrome undercarriage over a painted one costs extra. One can filter according to price on the website, from least to most expensive. For example, when it comes to miniature show vehicles, customers have the option of choosing the least expensive mini roadster or the most expensive Devan Mini Viceroy.

Accessories are available on the website and can be chosen to match the vehicle purchased. Dashes, boots and baskets, cushions, whip sockets and a number of other items are available. It is also possible to purchase complete wheels, parts, tires and tubes and hubcaps. Even products for caring for a cart are sold such as an item for protecting and sealing chrome parts.

This company has had many years of experience in developing, designing and producing sulkies. This extensive experience helps in the production of high quality, top performance vehicles. Any repair of vehicles is also made easy as the company website offers the opportunity to purchase spare parts.
