So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Garde Manger & What Chefs Must Know

If you spend ample amounts of time preparing chilled platters and the like, chances are that you may consider yourself a garde manger chef. A garde manger, in simplest terms, is an environment in which cooler foods are prepared without the presence of heat. Even though the heat in question will not be so easily seen, there's no question that effort is still required. To become the best you can be, as far as garde manger cooking is concerned, culinary students should consider these ideas.

Depending on where you decide to take up a job, a garde manger position may be seen as something of an entry-level job. It's easy to see why, since smaller foods like salad do not require as much experience to create. For those who are simply trying to earn experience, without many opportunities, a field like this can prove to be quite useful. This doesn't mean that these duties cannot be more intricate, as time goes on, which you will be able to see.

As you start to expand your skills more so, maybe you'll start to learn more about re-purposing. I'm sure that you have done this before, such as using leftover meat in order to create some kind of soup or stew for the night after. It's an invaluable skill and one that, believe it or not, can be applied to the responsibilities a garde manger chef will have. While this idea will be tied into cooler meals, which goes without saying, it's one that helps to make a number of jobs easier.

If you'd like to understand the more complex aspects of a garde manger chef's job, you should consider the aesthetics aspects of the job. For example, if there is a social event that requires appetizers, it wouldn't be out of the question for various cheeses to be served in a well-composed platter. What if there is an upcoming wedding that requires a cake with the finest decorations? Elements like flowers made of icing will not only be set in place but made with quality intact.

It's easy to see that becoming a garde manger chef is going to take quite a bit of work. The responsibilities, on the part of these workers, are easily some of the most extensive and I am sure that others would be able to agree with such a point. In order to better understand what this field is all about, you should make it a point to get involved in a garde manger. Not only will you have the opportunity to prepare certain dishes but the experience earned will prove to be invaluable.
