So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

The Top 3 Missteps When Preparing Steak

By Katie Onson

If you want to talk about the best meals that can be made, ones which contain hearty steaks will be considered. These types of meals are not only filling, to say the least, but they can be cooked to anyone's preference. Of course, in order for the best steak to be prepared, there is certainly a level of learning that can be done. While there are those who learn at home, many men and women take it upon themselves to attend culinary colleges across the board.

It's clear that there are many campuses focused on the culinary arts - Culinard is a great example - and they are designed to help people cook various foods. Some of the most intricate life skills can be picked up and you can be certain that each of them will prove useful in the long term. It's not out of the question to believe, then, that the right ways to prepare meat can be covered. Steak is a great example and here are 3 of the top missteps to avoid during the cooking process.

One of the mistakes in question is not allowing the steak itself to sit out for as long as it should. Typically, you are going to keep steak in the freezer so that it may be preserved, before you take it out for cooking. However, you have to make sure that it sits out for long enough, since this will allow the meat to defrost. Not allowing time for this to be done can result in the meat itself to fail in being thoroughly cooked, which will result in meals that are less than satisfying.

Another mistake that may be made is not going as hard on the seasoning as a chef should. While you may think that you'll have to minimize the amount of salt, pepper, and the like, the truth of the matter is that these add the needed flavors associated with a litany of meals. Make sure that these are added to a degree that you can still taste the steak itself. Once this perfect balance is found, it goes without saying that a more satisfying steak will be created.

To cap things off, a chef may find him or herself slicing into a steak as soon as it is being finished. What this does is that it leaves the steak coming across as dry, if not unsatisfying in general. The reason for this is because the juices of the steak require time to sit. When this doesn't happen, the meat itself is often tough to consume. Patience is required, by cooks and food lovers alike, and this will ensure that the best steak is ultimately served.
