So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

What Should Be Known About Wire Wheels

By Anna Collins

A wheel that has the connection between hubs and rims done by wires is referred to as a wire wheel. Wire-spoked, suspension, and tension-spoked wheel are the other names that are used to refer to it. Suspension wheel and vehicle suspension should not be confused because they are not the same thing. Wire wheels work by maintaining the form of the rims as they support the load. They are similar to tensioned flexible wires in the mechanism through which they work.

The invention of these products occurred in 1808 and was done by an aeronautical engineer by the name George Cayley. Even though Cayley proposed the product, its functioning, and its production, he never applied for a patent. A patent was later applied and issued to a Theodore Jones in London in October of the year 1826. The use of the product on bicycles was first patented by a French by the name of Eugene Meyer in the year 1969.

The first successful commercial use of these products was on bicycles. They began to be used shortly after the bicycle was invented and rubber tires were adopted for use on vehicles. With the introduction of this wheel on bicycles, a lot of improvement was introduced. The improvement came from the amount of weight that could be bored and the level of comfort.

The older wooden wheel was insufficient in a number of ways, especially since it lacked elasticity, something that prevented it from being able to absorb road variations. The early manufacturers of bicycles manufactured millions of tension-spoked wheel every year. They used the common crossed-spoke patterns in which crossings of adjacent spokes were determined by how many spokes were present. However, other patterns were also available including no-cross, one-cross, and two-cross.

More strength and stability is provided by the patterns named above. The patterns have been in wide use for over a hundred years now. On the other hand, irregular patterns have little structural merit and have been considered to be simply art forms. Cast wheels that have 5-6 rigid spokes were first introduced in the Olympic Games and professional racing back in the 80s. Their introduction was so that they could be used in specialized applications like time trials. However, wire-spoked products still remain in wide use in most other applications.

Production is mostly done using stainless steel. However, producers use several other materials too. The preference of stainless steel is because it has great elasticity and strength. With the high strength, the wheel does not get deformed when a lot of force is applied. Production using plastic has started in most Chinese companies.

The number of wires in a product is usually varied. Some products have more wires than others. The main factor that determines the number of wires is the application the wheel is meant serve. For instance, products installed on cars have more wires than those installed on motorcycles and bicycles. The higher the number of wires, the stronger the device is.

Beauty is among the characteristics of these commodities that make them preferable. Most motorcycle producers use them because of the retro appearance they have. Today, they are produced and distributed by many manufacturers in the world over. They vary in cost a lot.
