So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Saving Money By Using Rebuilt Diesel Engines

By Kenneth Adams

If your car ever breaks down it is not always possible to fix the problem quickly or easily. A catastrophic failure may require all or parts of the main block to be replaced which can work out extremely expensive. One way to minimize the financial outlay is to utilize rebuilt diesel engines.

With some minor failures the solution may be just to replace parts of the main power unit such as a cylinder head or engine block. With manufacturers engines costing many thousands of dollars changing a major component can be a money saving option. Parts will start from just a couple of hundred dollars for a small fix and increase to thousands for a complex rebuild.

Most auto engineers will be able to offer you a rebuild option and it is advisable to obtain as many prices as you can to get the best price. Many web based companies will offer these services and most will have power plants ready to fit in exchange for your old one plus a fee. In a lot of cases it can be cheaper to buy a reconditioned one and not send in the old one for a rebuild.

Many of the companies who carry out rebuilds will offer some kind warranty with their replacement units. This can be from 3 to 5 years or commonly 10 to 100 thousand miles. With any warranty offered it may be that any future work on the motor will need to be carried out by them to keep the guarantee valid.

Using the cheaper option of a full rebuild is friendly on the pocket but it may affect the future resale value of your vehicle. It is worth noting that if you intend to show a car it might be disqualified for not having its original engine. Your insurers will also need to be told of any changes if they keep the serial numbers on file.

For popular cars, rebuilt engines for a diesel car will vary in price from the 1500 dollar mark rising to about 6000 dollars. Power plants for old vehicles and rarer models will generally be more as they are much harder to source and some expert knowledge is needed for the assembly. Motoring clubs and other vehicle organizations will be more than happy to offer advice on any work you plan to do to an older car.

If you need to send a block away for a rebuild you may need to have a qualified mechanic or auto repair shop remove it from your car instead of trying to do it yourself. They will have all of the correct tools and can extract it safely ready for shipping. This job can be done in your own garage if you have all of the specialist tools and heavy lifting gear you will need.

Most parcel couriers will price their carriage according to the gross weight of the items to be shipped and in some cases this will be expensive. Some companies will include shipping in the cost of the rebuild and this can be a good option. When you are sending motors by road ensure that everything is well protected with the correct packing and insurance cover in case of damage.
