So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Learn Why Your Electrical System Matters With A Philadelphia Electrician

By April Madrid

Do you live in an older home? The state of your electrical system matters. Older homes may not have systems designed to handle modern loads and some even have aluminum wiring - a major fire hazard.

It's important to upgrade your electrical system for a variety of reasons. Usually 25 years is the time at which electricians suggest having the system upgraded, but it may be necessary to upgrade your electrical system sooner than this.

The first is signs of circuit overload. Breakers that keep tripping, lights flickering or dimming when you turn on an appliance, hot switches or outlets or randomly dead outlets are often signs of this. This means your electrical system is simply not able to keep up with the demands of a modern home. (Note: Never override a breaker that keeps tripping, as this can cause a fire).

If this is the case in your home, arrange for an update as soon as possible, as overloaded circuits are a fire hazard. Identifying which outlets are on which circuit and moving things so the load is spread out over several circuits can help as an interim measure.

You should know that if knob and tube or aluminum wiring are found, this is problem. Aluminum wire increases the likelihood of fire. Fuse boxes that are obsolete can also create issues. Fire, however, is always the biggest threat. Any issue with electrical wiring is a major fire hazard.

When a building structure beyond 25 years of age, it is important to have a Philadelphia electrician perform a comprehensive electrical inspection. You may not be able to spot every issue by performing a visual inspection on your own - so have a trained electrician look for spike in voltage and hot spots that signify problems behind your walls. If any of these signs of an overloaded circuit are found, prepare to have your home electrical system upgraded.
