So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Check Out A Missouri Fresh Produce Market

By George Stevens

A trip to a local farmers market is a great outdoor activity that families can enjoy. Even the children will appreciate shopping at a Missouri fresh produce market. Allow them to hunt for something new that they have never tried before. Then at home let them help find a recipe and take part in the actual preparation. Do not forget to let them choose some of their favorite foods, too.

One thing that will motivate you to check the local market first is the freshness of all they sell. Other stores do not begin to provide the same kind of freshness. The items that other stores sell are often picked while they are still green and are in transit to the stores where they are left on the shelves for days. They may look great on the shelf, but they do not compare in taste to the fresh produce market. Local fruits and vegetables are picked fresh just before they are sold.

An advantage of shopping in a local farmers market is the possibility of getting to know the small farmers from the local area and the small business owners. It is a great way to help the local people succeed in their local businesses and a great way to make new friends. Some owners give special discounts to people who buy from them on a regular basis.

Many of the farmers that sell their fruits and vegetables locally plant and grow them organically. That makes them healthier and safer for the whole family to enjoy. In many cases no chemicals are used at all.

Produce from the grocery store does not have the same delicious taste that local food has. The difference is mainly the fact that local food is picked when it is ripe, and it is picked crisp. Taste the same fruit or vegetable from local grocery stores to compare the taste. Meals made with produce from the produce market even taste considerably better and as a result are more enjoyable.

It is often cheaper to purchase fresh produce from people in the neighborhood than from the normal stores. Any produce that is considered organic is nearly always more expensive in the grocery stores. Neighborhood people have less overhead costs than the other stores.

Fresh food markets always sell the produce that is in season. When the season passes all of those things change. This helps everyone enjoy the extra freshness and the most delicious and truest flavors. Community people become accustomed to eating and enjoying the produce that is available during each distinct season.

When strolling through a farmers market, it is not unusual to find special foods or vegetables and fruits that are not found in community stores. Oftentimes ladies enjoy making things they have baked in their kitchen or that they learned how to make from their mothers or grandmothers years ago. They love sharing their stories with the buyers who pass by, and they welcome questions about what the items are, how to prepare them and how to use them.
