So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Coal Dealer Tips For Lighting A Coal Stove

By Jim Carpenter

When it comes to lighting a coal stove a coal dealer will explain that certain procedures need to be followed in order to light it correctly. Plus once lit you need to maintain the amount of coal that you provide it with to ensure that it burns correctly and continuously. If you don't carry out the right procedures and maintenance after lighting a coal stove it will soon become extinguished.

In this article we offer a few tips on how to get a coal stove fire started along with some other tips you may find useful when it comes to getting yours started.

1. The first thing to do is lay some dry paper and kindling in your coal stove to act as the base and which you need to light and get burning well. Only once this has begun to burn well should you start to add some small pieces of hardwood to the stove.

2. During the stage when the kindling, paper and hardwood are being burnt it is important that you keep the draft control on your coal stove fully open until the fire has become well established and hot. Only when a good bed of embers has become to build up from the wood can you then start to add your coal and this should be in small amounts.

3. Gradually you need to add more small amounts of coal to the stove until you have a layer of around 1 to 2 inches of coal that is burning. Never add too much coal at any one time when lighting your stove and always allow that which you have added sufficient time to completely ignite before you add some more.

4. It is crucial that you fill the stove up with coal to the highest point that you can as the deeper the bed of coal in it then better it will function. However, just because there is lots of coal in the stove does not mean it has to run continuously at high temperatures you can easily regulate by reducing the amount of air that is allowed to flow in to it.

5. However you should never start to close down the draft control on your coal stove until such time as the coal has all been ignited and is producing blue flames. Also never let your stove run with the draft control open for any extended period of time as this in fact can cause damage internally to your. Plus you need to ensure that the ash pan door of your coal stove is kept closed all the time.

As we have said previously a coal dealer will explain the difficulties of getting a coal stove started. However, if you keep in mind the steps we have provided above, you should find this particular task far easier. Also when it comes to lighting your coal stove only do so after the temperatures have fallen below 55 degrees Fahrenheit for several days on a trot. Unfortunately if you light before then the chimney attached to it will not be able to develop enough draft to help with the process of getting a fire lit.
