So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

A Gel Fireplace is Clean and Simple

By Garry Betsworth

Lots of people think about installing a fireplace in their house. However, when they start investigating what's involved in doing so, they quickly become overwhelmed. That's because it requires ripping out walls and installing a chimney through your roof. In addition, a wood burning fireplace needs a lot of cleaning and maintenance.

However, there's an easy alternative to the traditional fireplace. It's known as a gel fireplace, and for many people it's the ideal answer.

Many people these days are choosing this leading edge style of fireplace, and for lots of good reasons. There's no odor, soot, smoke, or fumes, which means almost no clean-up. Stockpiling wood and cleaning up soot and ashes will be a thing of the past. No need for an extensive selection of fireplace tools and accessories. Just light a can of fuel and enjoy the warmth of your ventless gel fireplace.

A ventless gel fireplace operates quite differently from a traditional fireplace. They create a real fire by burning a gel that's produced from grain alcohol. You can enjoy a real flame with this clean burning product, without all the mess of a traditional fire. Typically, a gel fireplace holds three cans of fuel. Each container burns for about three hours or so. The gel even makes the crackling noise of a wood burning fire and there are scent sticks available you can add to your canisters.

There is no construction involved in installing a gel fireplace and no hookups required. It should only take an hour or so to put it together and set it up anywhere in your house that you choose. You can even move it later on if your decor changes. Some models can be hung on a wall. Another alternative is to buy a special insert for your existing fireplace in which you can burn the gel canisters.

A gel fireplace emits no smoke or fumes. They do, however, emit a bit of carbon monoxide, but only at a level that is completely safe. They have to undergo strict testing to make sure they comply with regulations regarding emissions of this substance.

Gel fireplaces are easy to maintain. As well, they are among the most cost effective and energy efficient means of heating a small space. Because there is no flue, all the heat is projected into the room. Be aware, though, that while they do provide warmth, they are not meant to be a primary heating source for your home.

Gel fireplaces range in price from several hundred to two thousand dollars, depending on the size and style. But they're well worth it for people with busy lives who just want to enjoy a real fire without a lot of trouble.
