So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Fill a Gift Basket With Cookies and Make Them Smile

By Nancy Fair

Has someone been sweet to you? Return the favor by giving them a cookie gift basket. Cookies are a universal favorite, beloved by all ages. The variety of cookies available is endless and you'll have a lot of fun arranging and decorating this tasty treat.

You don't have to be close to someone to give them cookie gift baskets, so it makes a great present to show your gratitude to your children's teachers, your hair stylist, the mailman, or the newspaper carrier. But it's easy to personalize a cookie basket for a friend or relative by getting just the right cookies and wrapping them up with a personal touch. Both approaches are certain to bring a smile to the recipient's face.

You'll want the cookies to be fresh-baked, so either make them yourself if you're a talented baker, or purchase them from a quality bakery or gourmet cookie shop. The hardest decision in making your cookie gift basket will likely be what kind of cookies to choose. If you don't know the person well, an assorted variety is the best way to go. If the gift is for your favorite "cookie monster", and they're crazy for chocolate well, you know what to do.

Pick out a pretty cookie tin or basket, then place your cookies in a nice arrangement. You can wrap your basket in colorful cellophane or gift basket bag, and top it off with a nice big bow. You'll want to add a little handwritten note. Your thoughtfulness will show through in these small details.

When decorating your cookie gift basket, why not choose a theme? A birthday present calls for brightly colored wrapping and some party favors tucked into the basket of cookies. At Christmas time, select red and green packaging and bows in rich fabrics like satin or velvet. For Halloween, make up a basket of pumpkin or ghost shaped cookies and decorate it with orange cellophane and black ribbons.

Similarly, you can choose a certain flavor of cookie depending on the occasion. Christmas brings to mind spices like cinnamon and ginger. For Thanksgiving and Halloween, pumpkin is the way to go.

Some people have special dietary requirements and can't eat a sugary treat or anything containing gluten or wheat products. Look for a supplier that has cookies that are suitable for people with diabetes or other needs. Or you can find a recipe that fits the requirements and make your own. There are sugar substitutes available that can be used in baking just like sugar.

You can have a lot of fun making up a cookie gift basket, with all the cookie varieties and decorating options. And the recipient is sure to have a lot of fun eating it up.
