So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Celebrating Mother's Day with Edible Flowers

By Art Barron

Mother's Day is just around the corner. Most of us just send flowers today, and that's fine. But have you thought of a unique way to show the most special woman in your life how grateful you are for having a mother like her? Go ahead and say it with flowers - edible flowers, that is.

Don't Throw it Away, Mom

A nice big spray of carnations, sprinkled with some jasmine and chrysanthemum are an array of edible flowers that need not be thrown away after spending a day or two in the vase. Carnation petals are surprisingly sweet, and jasmine and chrysanthemum are great for flavoring up mom's afternoon tea. It may take mom a bit of convincing, but why miss out on the good stuff in edible flowers? These are not only tasty, but they are nutritious, too!

Although not all edible flowers can be bunched up into bouquets, you can still make them extra pretty by putting them on tiny pots for decoration, such as garlic and onions. Isn't that a unique way to give edible flowers? Also, a flower box of sage, basil, and thyme by your kitchen window would make a lovely addition to mom's home. These edible flowers in pretty lavenders, yellows, and whites would certainly bring more life into the household!

If you have enough garden space, throw in a few of these edible flowers: the sunflower, the tuberous begonias (the hybrids are edible and almost fruity), a few daisies, maybe some roses. These will not only brighten up any lawn, but keep up the food supply, too. Throw in a couple of tulips and pansies. These should make mom's garden bloom all year long with colorful and edible flowers.

What to Remember

If you are seriously considering giving your mom edible flowers, just make sure that you really are giving her flowers that are edible. These should be without pesticides and other chemicals. You should also know how to prepare these edible flowers, so that they are good to eat. A much simpler task is to get these edible flowers already prepared so that you won't have to prepare them yourself, especially when you know very little of how to do it. Your mom will surely be happy with this special gift of edible flowers on her special day.
