So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Making Ice Cream Using An Electric Ice Cream Maker - Tips To Make It Great

By Mia Kane

Electric Ice Cream makers are a great way to make ice cream. But I'm always being asked whether or not it's cheaper to make yourself or to buy it. Two answers to this, Yes and No. But the great thing is you Can make it cheaper if that's what you want.

For me it's always been cheaper to make, that was one of the key considerations. My kids eat ice cream several times a week, even in winter. I use all sorts of things. I use left over fruit, frozen fruit and even tinned fruit, or a combination of all of the above.

Picking free seasonal fruit like blackberries and blueberries helps, but I know not everyone can do this, so I just buy frozen, or when I see a good deal on fresh fruit, buy it and freeze it myself.

Canned and frozen fruit work just fine and taste great. If it's canned I tend to drain the juice first, as this keeps it healthier and better for my kids teeth. But that's up to you. Here are some more tips to get you making lovely ice cream.

1. Don't ever re freeze once it has defrosted. It can make you unwell.

2. The use of an electric maker can cut down on labor. If you are going to make ice cream regularly then its worth reviewing a selection of electric machines and considering investing in one. With the right care, they last an age.

3. Remember, your home made version will not (fortunately) have preservatives or additives in it like you are used to with commercial ones. This means it won't last as long so try to eat within 10 days to a couple of weeks.

4. It's best not to serve your ice cream too cold. It can give you brain freeze, but also takes away from the flavor because it's just too cold to taste properly. Take out of the freezer for about 10 minutes before you dive in.

5. Freeze all left over chocolate and chocolate sweets (you can use these when you want to make a choc flavour version). You can grate them over the top for a lovely effect.

6. Blueberries must not go into the ice cream. When they freeze they go rock hard and could take out a tooth. So if you want to put them in, crush them first or just serve them on the side.

Making your own ice cream is really rewarding, you can also get the kids involved. Bringing home made ice cream around to a friends house for dinner is a lovely gift and you can all enjoy it together.
