So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Breakfast Nook L-Shaped Benches

By Malisa Holderbaum

When you begin to furnish your breakfast nook, it is important to consider how many people you want to accommodate and how much space you have available. Another consideration is the style or personality you want the room to have and what will fit well with your kitchen design. Still more, you need to consider the comfort of the people who will enjoy the space.

If you choose chairs for seating, then your will be able to accommodate four to six people. An alternative seating arrangement is benches that easily can hold eight to nine people if you sit close. Another benefit of the bench option is that they take up less room than chairs.

The L-shaped bench is a very common option. The L-shaped bench is just as it sounds. An L-shaped bench sits in a corner with the table moved up to it. You can then fill in the rest of the seating with additional benches, or chairs in any combination. Using additional benches will provide more seating space because you can fit a bench for three in the same space occupied by two chairs.

In addition to providing more sitting space, benches also provide other space saving benefits. Most benches will come with storage compartments underneath where you can store small kitchen appliances, art supplies, games or linens. These storage compartments are very convenient if you have limited counter or cabinet space.

Benches can be either a pro or a con when you are thinking about your decorating style. For better or worse, benches tend to bring up images of farmhouses and countrysides. You want to make sure that the benches will compliment the rest of the dcor in your kitchen and home.

If you have a contemporary or modern kitchen with stainless steel appliances and sleek cabinetry then benches will not compliment that style. If you have a more traditional style, then benches can make your kitchen feel homier and make people want to gather. Whatever your style, you want to think about what benches will say to your visitors.

A possible down side to using benches is that they can be uncomfortable. If only your family gathers in your breakfast nook, then the close seating arrangements forced by benches should not be a problem. However, if you entertain people in this are of your house they might find the close courters uncomfortable. It is very intimate to sit with your legs touching and that is a distinct possibility when you sit on benches. It might be a good idea to use a combination of the L-shaped bench and chairs if this is a concern for you.

Another issue with comfort is that benches have much less surface area for sitting than chairs. That can make benches uncomfortable for a larger person to sit on. If you will have people of larger size sitting around your table then the combination of benches and chairs is probably a good choice.
