So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Decorating With Rugs

By Ariel Barnett

Rugs have several uses and it can make a statement no matter which way you choose to display your rug. Using different colors, shapes, sizes and styles are easier than ever when you consider all the options you have available today.

Every room is an individual room so it should be decorated that way. If you use floral designs you should compliment it with warm colors or cool solid colors. If you use small patterns compliment them with large patterns to tame them down.

If you have furniture as a focal point you can use your rug to compliment your focal point. Use colors that blend in and avoid primary colors that may stand out.

If your focal point is the area rug itself you can use bright colors or large busy patterns to allow the rug to stand out.

If your focal point is a fireplace you want to use patterns and colors that will enhance the fireplace and not distract. You cannot have more than one element competing for the focal point. This will make the room seem unbalanced or busy.

Other ideas to consider when using rugs to decorate your home include the following:

1.) Light colored rugs make a room feel more spacious; darker colors or patterns make the room more cozy or warm.

2.) Try different shaped rugs; oval, round, hexagon, octagon, and more. Each shape takes on a different look.

3.) You may want to try using fringes on rugs to give it an oriental flair. Avoid grabbing these fringes in your vacuum.

4.) Try using worn out rugs to create pillows for your sofa. Add some tassels on the corners in order to style it up.

5.) A colorful rug may also make a good wall decoration. Tack or nail it to the wall, or sew loops at a long edge, run a window rod through them, and attach the rod to a pair of window brackets. You will make only two holes in the wall and the rug will hang straighter also.

Make use of your imagination when using rugs for decoration and you will seldom go wrong.
