So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Winterizing your Phoenix Landscape

By Julia B Larkin

Every year it is important to make sure you are ready for the winter come. When the signs of winter come along, there are a few "must do's" to make sure your home and yard are ready. The following are some suggestions of things you should remember to do before your winter comes up to bite you.

If you are using a swamp cooler or and air conditioner, make sure to cover up your unit for the winter time. There are damages that can occur if not waterproofed correctly. Some of the common problems with not water proofing your units are rust and most importantly is moisture entering your electrical box of the AC unit. By keeping the rust out, turning your unit on for the summer time is a breeze.

One thing in the yard to keep your eye on is picking up those leaves from the trees. Everyone knows how annoying they are, but it is another must do. The leaves on the ground during the winter keep the grass under them unable to get the air, sun and water they need. In the spring, your grass will have a tougher time growing to the level it needs to before the hot heat comes in.

A good way to pick up the leaves is with a mower. Some use rakes, but a mower can be good to chop down the leaves to smaller pieces for convenience of throwing them away. You may also want to consider keeping the chopped up leaves for a mulch for next spring in your flower beds.

One last tip before you bundle up for the winter, make sure you get on your roof and get those rain gutters cleaned out so that as the snow melts it has a clean run off path. This will prevent any unwanted flooding and save you money down the road.
