So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Lawn Care and Core Aeration

By Alfred Washington

Lawn Aerators are a solution for soil that suffers from excessive thatch develop and soil compaction that prevents air, fertilizer and water to reach down to the lawns roots, which can stunt the plats growth. By way of the method of lawn aeration you are simply helping out to let air, water and fertilizer down to the roots and deposits valuable micro-organisms on the lawn surface.

The main purpose of aeration of lawns is to make certain better soil structure that increases the vitality of the soils micro organisms. Depending on the soil type of your lawn you may do this on your own with a standard garden fork or a specifically designed core aerator fork. If your lawn is more then a acre them you may want to get a contractor in to do the job or you can purchase core lawn aerators that can be towed at the back a ride on mower.

Soil aeration needs to be carried out in the spring because this is the natural time when the plants to establish their root systems, based on the type of turf variety you have. The aim is to poke holes or spike the lawn at even intervals by driving the fork vertically into the soil and withdrawing it without levering it sideways. Core aerators have an advantage over spike forks because they actually dig a core of soil leaving a gap that can be plugged or filled with a combination of top soil and fertilizer followed by a deep watering.

Lawns that have a problem with thatch it is important to leave the cores on the lawn, allowing them to work back into the grass. Lawns may be fertilized and seeded immediately after aeration. Soil aeration opens the soil and helps reduce compaction which improves water and fertilizer infiltration. Core aeration can be used to minimize thatch accumulation and to reduce compaction of the soil in heavy traffic area. Whenever you use a core aerator soil plugs are deposited on the lawns surface. These soil plugs must either be removed or permitted to break down as a result of being exposed to the elements. Generally, the larger the soil plugs the longer it takes.

Beneath are some of the benefits of core aeration; Decreases water and fertilizer requirements for vigorous lawn Enhanced heat and drought stress tolerance. Helps the regeneration of new root development Improves fertilizer uptake Relieves soil compaction. Helps improve the recycling flow of air, water, and fertilizer. Helps thatch breakdown. Promotes a greener, weed free lawn.
