So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Making A Real Bratwurst In Colorado

In three days your neighborhood is going to experience the most fantastic back yard party it has ever seen. Friends of yours are flying in from all over the country, and you are even going to be able to meet your little brother's new wife for the first time. She is German, and you thought it would be fun to try your hand at making your own bratwurst Colorado style.

The only thing is you don't really have the faintest idea where to start. You do know that you will need some kind of meat, probably a specific set of herbs and spices to season it with, and of course some sort of tube to hold it all together. Sausage casings are usually reasonably easy to find in a good grocery store. You can possibly find individual casings, and that will make it easier on you when it comes like to filling them. Traditional long form cases need to be filled and twisted and tied and it's just a great big hassle.

Sausages tend to have sets of primary ingredients. These sausages for example are made of finely ground meat, usually veal, pork, or beef. Different styles have different ratios of these fillings, but the contents are often discovered to be a mixture of veal and pork. With more than forty regional variations, there is a lot of room for experimentation.

Classic European herbs like marjoram and nutmeg are found in nearly all of the many styles. Salt and pepper are of course essential, and you may like to add your own personal touch to the flavors by adding a little clove, maybe some garlic, and of course a small amount of a good whole grain mustard.

There is an incorrect assertion that the word itself comes from the German verb which means to fry in a pan or roast. The root of this sausage's name is not Braten, however. Literally translated, this encased tube of meat is called 'chopped meat sausage' in the German language, and it is often grilled, fried, or simmered in beer.
