So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Understanding Ligero, Seco and Volado

By Drew Danson

There is a great deal that goes into the creation of the perfect cigar. Many people do not realize this, but there is much more to the tobacco leaf than just the variety. Of course, we all know that different tobaccos grown in different parts of the world have different flavors, but the details do not end there. In fact, there is more than one leaf on each tobacco plant, and all of the types of leaves are important to cigars that you add to your humidor.

You will also need to know what causes a cigar to be bold or mild. This will have a great impact on whether or not you will like your cigar. Some people prefer mild cigars, while other prefer bold. Still others prefer a combination of bold and mild, depending on their mood. Do you know what it is about your cigar that makes it bold or mild? It actually has to do with the tobacco leaves that are used.

Every cigar that you own has three different types of tobacco leaves in them: Ligero, Seco and Volado. These three types all come from the same tobacco plant, but they are all very different. At the top of the tobacco plant, you will find the Ligero leaves. These leaves are bold and strong in flavor. At the middle of the plant, you will find the Seco leaves. These leaves are the mild and soft flavored leaves. At the bottom of the plant, you will find the Volado leaves. These leaves have no flavor and do not contribute to the taste of the cigar. Volado leaves are required because they are the reason why the cigar can burn.

When a cigar is rolled, it will include a combination of the three leaves. A bold cigar will have more Ligero leaves. A mild cigar will have more Seco leaves. Every cigar will have some amount of Volado leaves so that it will burn well. This is important to know because it will have to do with each type of cigar you like and choose.

When you look in your cigar humidor, you most likely have a few different types of cigars. Since you are new to the smoking hobby, you may not know how to choose the right cigars or what the parts of the smokes are. Each cigar includes a balance of tobacco leaves to create the perfectly strong or mild flavor.
