So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Simple Ways To Improve Your Home's Value

By Brian Jones

Home improvement is a good way to return a home to its purchase glory. Making little fixes to a property can make a home look as if it were brand new. The home improvement tips in the following article will help you get started on your own home improvement projects.

If your bed doesn't come with a headboard, or you didn't purchase it with one, you can easily solve your problem. Use an old weathered wooden gate or a lovely iron gate to make a one of a kind headboard. That's something you won't see anywhere else and will not be sold in stores.

Don't ignore local characteristics when adding improvements. A pool is perfect in Miami, but not so much in Vermont. A beach house with a deck works well in southern California, but the winds at the beach in Hyannis, Massachusetts would blow away every last deck chair. Features that are not usable in your area's climate will add no value to your home.

For slow-draining toilets caused by tree roots, use a foaming tree root remover in your toilet every six months. While regular granules of copper sulfate do work, only the tree roots that come into contact with the granules are killed. A foaming product fills the entire pipe with solution, ensuring that all of the roots die and break off, leaving your pipes free and clear.

When you are designing your kitchen, think hard about whether you want an open or closed kitchen floor plan. If you like to be able to talk with your family, watch television and generally know what's going on in the rest of the house while cooking, you may want an open kitchen plan. However, if you would prefer for the kitchen clutter to stay hidden, you may prefer a kitchen with a door that can be closed.

Guessing wrong about a sale item can put you in a very uncomfortable position since you probably won't be able to return it. Carry a tape measure and a list of the dimensions of your rooms with you all the time. In this way, if you see the perfect item of furnishing, appliance, or fixture on sale, you will be able to measure it to see if it will fit the space you have in mind.

If you live in an old home, you may have steel pipes that you should replace with copper or PVC versions. When you encounter steel pipes that have whitish deposits on them, do not strip these away until you are prepared to replace the pipe--the mineral deposits are probably left over from a leak, and this "scab" may be the only thing preventing your pipes from dripping.

If you love the idea of a home office but just can't spare an entire room, get creative! A large walk-in closet or pantry is the perfect candidate for a mini-office. Most pantries have built-in shelves, which are perfect for a laptop computer, books, a printer, and office supplies.

Update the lighting in your home to add brightness. Changes in lighting fixtures and adding additional wall lighting can bring a entirely new look to your home. Buy energy saving bulbs to reduce your overall energy costs and consider investing in a smart lighting system that will automatically turn off lights when not in use.

If part of your home improvement entails repainting a door, there are two methods you may utilize to do this. Sometimes, the easiest way to paint a door is to remove it from its hinges and paint it on sawhorses which have been placed on a drop cloth. You can also choose not to remove the door and just paint it in place over a drop cloth. Use a high-quality paint brush and brush in line with the wood's grain.

When making home improvements that involve the water supply or something near them, turn off the water. It's important to know where your home's water shutoffs are located, and to make sure the water turned is off before taking apart the sink, or you may soon be dealing with a flood.

When hanging blinds you need to make sure to measure thoroughly before buying them or trying to install them. If you do not measure the windows you may not be able to properly install the blinds. There are many different sizes for blinds and some are made to be installed on the interior frame of the window and some on the outside of the frame.

In conclusion, by doing home improvements, you can make your home look the way it did upon the first purchase. Small tweaks and large repairs can do a world of difference for any home. If you remember the tips in this article on home improvement, you can make your home look like a brand new showcase home.
