So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Basic Tips That Will Get Good Food On The Table

By Carina Helen Sanchez

Do you ever wish you could make the delicious meals that you enjoy at the homes of your family members and friends? You will be able to improve your cooking skills after reading this article.

Use a thicker skinned potato for more successful potato skins. Thin skinned potatoes such as red potatoes are unable to hold most fillings.

When preparing pasta, it is important to add salt to the pot of water. This helps to add flavor to the pasta while it is boiling. Salting pasta after cooking it results in a less flavorful pasta dish.

Slicing hot meat is often challenging, so consider partially freezing joints before you attempt to cut them up. This is especially helpful if you are preparing an Oriental dish. The tissues of partially-frozen meat do not tear and stretch as much; this makes cleaner slices possible. Make sure that you let the meat thaw before cooking, so the meat is cooked evenly.

For a fat-free stew or soup, start your recipe by using fat-free soup stock or broth. Also use lean meat and lots of vegetables; this will keep your soup low-fat. Let your soup chill in the refrigerator when it is done cooking. The excess fat will float to the top and congeal. Simply skim off the hard fat now and throw it away. This will equal about 100 calories that you have saved from each tablespoon of fat you removed.

Shake things up if your family is tired of the same frozen sweet corn on the table every night. Mixing new ingredients into the corn, like coconut for a Thai flavor, will give them an interesting treat.

Fix your pie crust. If you have been too rough with your pie, the crust may be cracked. If you put a small amount of cold water over them and then gently rub it with your fingers, you can repair the cracks. If the cracks happen to be on the top of the crust, just brush a little milk on it, then sprinkle with sugar. Subsequently, the pie crust will maintain a beautiful smooth finish, hiding any imperfections.

If you are baking crusts for a pie or tart, you will probably need to bake them for a while longer than you thought. The crust should have a nice golden color to be fully cooked. This golden color means that the sugar used in the crust has caramelized, giving the crust a crisp and sweet flavor.

Consider warming citrus fruits in the microwave for a bit before juicing. Citrus fruits like lemons, limes and oranges just need a quick ten second zap in the microwave. Now pull your fruit from the microwave and roll it around before juicing it.

A meat thermometer is a great way to show you are cooking meats properly. All of the different meats require a certain internal temperature in order for it to be safe to eat. If your meats are not cooked to the proper temperature, bacteria can stay alive within the meat and make you and your family sick if they are consumed.

As this article has discussed, cooking is revered by many as an excellent and enjoyable hobby. However, some people don't know where to start, in terms of picking the right recipes or using the proper techniques. Follow this article's advice and you will be on your way to cooking great food.
