So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Low Energy Light Bulbs, UK Regulations And The Types Available - General Information

By Ilechukwu Magnus

For some time now, the benefits that energy efficient lighting offers both economically and environmentally have been well discussed, written about and publicised . While many already use energy efficient light bulbs, UK government regulations will ensure that traditional bulbs are soon phased out completely because of their commitment to reduce carbon emissions. So, for those who have yet to adopt low energy lighting in their homes or workplaces, it is important to understand what types there are available . Of course, light bulbs are the channel by which lighting is brought to us and, generally, the three main categories are fluorescent, LED and halogen .

Energy Efficient Light Bulbs, UK Designs And Their Functionality

With conventional incandescent light bulbs, electricity travels through a thin filament and this is the means by which they work. On this journey, it meets resistance which generates heat . This heat, in turn, causes the filament to glow and provide light . It is, however, the need to produce so much heat to create light that leads to such inefficiency and waste. To redress these inefficiencies, the following light bulb types are available :

Fluorescent Light Bulbs

Because they do not rely on a filament to produce light, compact fluorescent lamps, also referred to as CFL's, do not generate an unnecessary high level of heat. Rather, it is their reliance on a number of phosphors in their tube that creates low energy lighting. It is estimated they use around one third less electrical power and last around ten times longer than their traditional counterparts . Many types are suitable for older style light fittings because they are designed with screw cap and bayonet style bases. In general terms, fluorescent is suitable as functional lighting and works well in areas such as kitchens .

LED Light Bulbs

Also, to produce light, neither is an excessive level of heat needed by lamp bulbs that use light emitting diodes (LED's). They rely instead on the type of semiconductor technology that is common in a lot of electronic equipment. Compared to the incandescent type, LED bulbs also offer a much longer lifespan and they use significantly less energy . Because these are also available in designs that are compatible with conventional-style light fittings, they are also easy to introduce. For rooms or recess areas that require atmospheric illumination, this type of lighting is considered suitable .

Halogen Lighting

Although halogen bulbs use the incandescent principle that relies on heat to generate light, the halogen gas recycles the heat, thereby conserving energy and making the bulb last longer . These are not estimated to offer the same efficiency levels as LED or fluorescent lighting but they still offer, especially when a dimmer switch is applied to them, a significant overall saving on conventional bulbs. Because they are designed to suit all fitting types, these are also adaptable . They provide a good level of lighting and are, therefore, suitable as either a functional or atmospheric lighting solution .

You will find there are great choices in designs if you are about to switch over to low energy light bulbs and you will be pleasantly surprised when you receive a much reduced electricity bill.
