So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

A Buying Guide For The LCD, Plasma And LED HDTVs Of 2012

By Cecilie Blaber

Shopping for an HDTV? Make sure to know your stuff. With a perplexing range of brands, sizes, features and technical specs that's making it more confusing, reading this guide will help you big time! I understand that most people just want to know how to select the best display and set it up for optimal enjoyment, but things aren't that simple. You've got to be a little bit of technology savvy so you won't need to upgrade your TV just to keep up with the next change in technology.

Purchasing a new television is not an easy task for people who do not know what they are looking for. Many articles found on the internet can make it even more difficult because they do not touch on every point of information people need in order to make the correct decision for them. This guide will help with this and has highlighted all of the key points that must be considered when purchasing a new television.

HDTV Scan Rate: Interlaced vs. Progressive

Progressive scan rates are much smoother than interlaced rates. Progressive scan rates are represented as 720p or 1080p. Conversely, interlaced scan rates are represented as 720i or 1080i. Interlaced televisions can cause eye strains because sometimes lines are flashed across the screen. The difference is especially noticeable with fast moving picture.

The numbers 720 and 1080 can be explained by learning about pixels.

Every HDTV is defined by its resolution (width x pixel height). The whole screen of a 720 (720 x 1280) HDTV has 921,600 pixels per frame; while a 1080 (1080 x 1920) has 2,073,600 pixels per frame. The 1080 HDTV set is always better, since more pixels show a more detailed picture. The actual size in inches of an HDTV isn't directly related to its resolution. Typically, the difference in detail isn't noticeable to the naked eye in smaller HDTVs under 40".

Below will be an explanation about why LED televisions are more expensive than LCD televisions.

LED stands for light-emitting diode and is essentially a glorified LCD monitor. Because it is basically just an upgrade, the two types of televisions look the same. LED screens have an LED backlighting and are not powered through LED lights as people have falsely claimed them to be.

The reason LED monitors are more expensive is because they consume less power, last longer, and have quicker responsiveness. The LCD monitor has improved on lighting, contrast and color much more than the LED monitor has been able to. Viewing angles in both televisions are about equal most of the time, and LED monitors have more brightness distribution issues.

Plasma HD sets produce color through illuminating gas.

Plasma HD sets us an old technology which involves thousands of small phosphor-coated cells that are filled with charged plasma in order to create the display. This technology has been looked down on by some because it can cause screen burnouts and ghosting problems.

Even though it uses old technology, the plasma HD monitor beats out the LCD HDTV for reasons explained below.

* Better color spectrum and viewing angle

They display black colors better, as well as making white colors look better.

* Superior response time

* Highest refresh rate reaching 600Hz (5x the refresh rate of an LCD)

The plasma display is more fluid than both LED and LCD HD sets and trumps both with an amazing refresh rate, although it is an energy hog.

3D is a Feature not a Design

In order to enjoy stereoscopic 3D television displays, users must purchase Blue-Ray players in order to enjoy their favorite movies in 3D. They will also need to acquire regular 3D glasses like those found in the theater, or get battery operated ones that sync with IR emitting devices.

There is a new 3D technology being developed that will allow users to experience 3D movies without the glasses. It is called autostereoscopic 3D. There is no determined release date, although people remain excited.

The features of the HDTV have been summarized below for convenience.

Screen size must be considered.

DTV readiness allows for digital signals to be received by the TV with no external device.

Screen resolution should be considered for optimal screen quality.

* Refresh Rate

Comparing the LCD display with the LED is important.

LCD and LED monitors can be compared against the plasma screen.

Consider purchasing a 3D television or not.

TIP: Compare prices online and read product reviews to get a heads up of your HDTV choice.
