So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

By Paulette Short

Whenever possible you should approach two or three service provider and invite them to quote for the job.

A search on the internet for local cleaning, repair and restoration services, or using the local yellow pages directory will give you a list of local companies. The majority of business enterprises have their own website which should provide you with further details on the type of services they provide and their terms and conditions. Select a minimum of three and arrange for them to visit and assess the piece and provide a quote.

The majority of reputable and established service providers will be pleased to provide a free price quote. When you contact the service to arrange for an assessment and price quote ask if they charge for providing a quote. If the service provider does charge for providing a quote, you may want to consider using another company.

Ask for references and do not just rely on glossy brochures or pictures of before and after shots of work they have carried out. Whenever possible, you should talk to previous customers who have had similar work carried out. You should ask people who have used the service if they were satisfied with the service and the results.

Your home and contents insurance will provide a measure of cover if an item is accidentally damaged while in your home. Any item removed from your home is likely to be excluded from your insurance policy, so it is doubly important to check the your service provider has adequate cover. It may be worthwhile seeking advice on the appropriate level of insurance cover required for antique, custom built or rare pieces from your insurer.

As a precaution in case of later disputes about the repairs, take photographs of your item before and after it has been repaired. It may be helpful to give the repairer any instructions from the manufacturer on care and cleaning along with a copy photo of the area requiring repair. The manufacturers information will generally provide details of the materials used in the manufacture of your item.

Depending on the type of repair, you may need to move other furniture to give the repairer a clear space to work in. It may also be a good idea to place a protective cover over other items in the room to protect them from dust and debris. Cover the flooring in the working area to prevent soiling or damage while work is on-going.

Choosing the least expensive specialist in furniture repair Boston area does not always mean you will receive value for money. Nor does choosing the most expensive guarantee you the best repair job. You also need to take into account the reputation, experience and reliability of the service provider.
