So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Getting Your Pocket Door Set In Working Condition Again

By Jerri Perry

When houses were built a long time ago, they often had a pocket door set placed here and there. These types of doors were common features of older homes. If you have something like this in your home, you can put it to good use, even if it seems a bit old fashioned. They can be modernized, or easily fixed up if they are not working. They are worth fixing because they save space due to their sliding nature.

Doors that are made like this can be kept open or shut, or you can alternate between their open and shut positions. Sometimes it may be convenient to have them closed, as you would like to cordon off an area of the home, while at other times they can be opened to allow for a more spacious feeling. Open doors can even be hidden with a tall cupboard or something similar.

These doors are very easy to use if they are in good condition. However, when there is a problem with their sliding mechanism, or if they are stuck completely and will not open or close, they become a part of your home that you do not like. Most problems, however, are quite simple to solve, and can be done by yourself if you are handy around the home.

At the beginning you will need to determine what the problem is with the doors. Doors that will not move an inch are often off their tracks, and require some adjustments to get them moving again. They will have to be reseated. If the doors move, but not with ease, there could also be a problem with the track. It may need to be cleaned out, or tightened.

To fix the tracks, or rails, you will need to be able to access them. This may mean removing the doors. This task, however, is not too difficult, and can be achieved without damaging any parts of the mechanisms. When you are able to get to the rails, the problem may be obvious. Sometimes, all the rails need is a good clean.

You should also ensure that the rails are still straight, and have not been bent or damaged in any way that would obstruct the doors from moving freely. Tightening the rails is also easy, and can be done with any ordinary screwdriver. Lost screws may also have caused problems, and can be replaced. While you have the rails exposed, some lube will be beneficial. Check the doors' hardware as well, for any problems.

While nice-looking and working doors can be a good feature of the home, doors that don't look attractive anymore can bring down the image of the home. A fresh coat of paint does wonders for many things, including these types of doors. Choose a bright color, or paint them to match the walls so that they are more hidden. You can even get really creative and turn them into a beautiful picture. The door's frame will look like a frame around the picture.

A pocket door set can be livened up with new hardware. There are plenty of varieties of handles and latches available. For something different, you can even install transparent or translucent doors.
