So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

The Most Common Environmentally Safe Dust Abatement Products Used

By Marcie Goodman

The large amount of dust that can be produced from dirt roads can cause a number of problems. People who live alongside gravel roads or who have driveways of gravel will be aware of these issues. When a road or driveway has been in place for a long time, the gravel becomes crushed from the weight of cars, and this causes more dust. This is especially the case if the weather is dry. Road dust abatement products are therefore often used.

A large quantity of dust in the air can cause harm to the environment, and it is also dangerous for road users. Drivers will not be able to see clearly when dust clouds are present. Furthermore, it can also be harmful for people to inhale dust on a continuous basis. Even people who live some distance from gravel surfaces may be affected, as the dust will be carried by wind.

Nowadays, with people more conscious of the environment, the substances used to treat dust surfaces are usually 'green'. It is no use trying to stop gravel roads from being an environmental hazard with substances that are not environmentally friendly. Molex, Dustlock, Earthbind, Ecobinder and Enviroseal Dust Control are a few common substances that are used on gravel roads.

Molex and Ecobinder are capable of preventing dust from being blown about because of their safe plant properties. Ecobinder contains lignum, while Molex is made from beet molasses. Both of these plant materials are sticky, like glue, and are therefore good for dampening dust particles. A road's surface is also improved when Ecobinder is used. Neither product is poisonous to humans or animals.

Certain types of oils are commonly used for creating substances that trap dust. For example, Dustlock is a product that is made from soybean oil, and Enviroseal Dust Control is made from vegetable oils. The second-mentioned product is able to control dust for periods of up to twelve months, and can also be used in extreme weather conditions, such as when the temperature drops to below freezing.

If you are someone who is not commercially involved in the use of these substances, you may not have access to them. However, you may still have a surface on the grounds of your property that needs some dust control. For gravel driveways, calcium chloride is a very effective substance, and is used by many people to control the dust that could potentially be harmful or annoying. It is a common salt, virtually environmentally friendly, and although it can corrode metal, it will not cause damage to vehicles.

If you have bought calcium chloride for your driveway, it is helpful to first wet the surface or to wait until rain has fallen. The dampness will help the substance to penetrate. Always read the manufacturer's instructions that indicate the recommended rate of application. Calcium chloride can be in a liquid or powder form.

The advantages of calcium chloride include its low price and its safety to vehicles. Dust abatement products such as this one, however, are corrosive, and mud formed by rains that have washed the driveway or road surface will be corrosive. You may also find other types of products available.
