So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Steps to Creating your own Cotton Candy

By Alex Oceanic

What comes to your mind when you hear the word 'carnival'? Magicians, caramel corn and cotton candy of course! You might remember as a child how you were taken to the carnival and how you used to watch the candy maker spin tempting wool of cotton candy before handing it over to you. These fluffy, sweet and colorful treats never fail to bring out squeals of delight in children and that is why they are served in children's birthday parties, informal parties, etc. Learning how to make cotton candy would definitely be something that is of great use for you because everyone loves cotton candy and you can whip it up and serve it anytime, anywhere.

In order to make the perfect cotton candy you will need the perfect blend of water, sugar, and corn syrup. You will place everything in a pan and cooked over medium heat. When the sugar has totally disappeared, you will be ready to pour the mixture in a glass bowl. Make sure you rinse the pan immediately with hot water or it will be a nightmare trying to clean the pan later. Now you are ready to learn how to make cotton candy fluffy so your guests will be lining up for more. You are going to need the whisk to fly around the bowl at the precise speed as the candy is gathered in a ball.

You need to cook a mixture of water, sugar and corn syrup on medium heat and then pour the mixture into a glass bowl. Be sure to rinse the pot in which you are cooking immediately otherwise it will solidify and become difficult to clean. Then comes the real trick and that is the technique of how to make cotton candy. Just dip the customized whisk into the mixture and whisk it at a great speed because whisking is a crucial element here - it can make or break the whole process.

In order to create good quality floss the floss head of the cotton candy machine should be spin in the right direction. The correct way of doing this is to throw the floss against the sides of the vessel in which it is prepared. You can twist down the edge of the machine's floaters (these are attached to the spinners) so that it would lift the floss and make it float in an upwards direction.

It used to be when cotton candy was purchased it would only come in the color pink. This is no longer the case thanks to food coloring. While learning how to make cotton candy it is when you are cooking the sugar mixture down over the fire this is the point you would add some food coloring to the mixture. You want to be careful when mixing colors because it is easy to make everything task gummy or starchy if the product you are using has these as the base.

A cotton candy recipe without sugar is a complete no-no as this is one of the basic requisites and if you want your cotton candy to be good then you can use 100% cane sugar, beet sugar or granulated sugar. A good cotton candy can be identified by its ribbons and therefore you should use sugars that provide the best types of ribbons. Refrain from using free flowing sugars because this could clog and burn the ribbons and opt for sanding sugars, coarse or medium-coarse sugars instead.

In order to say you learned how to make cotton candy properly you will need to know how to flick your wrist. When going around the pan and collecting the cotton candy you will make the number 8 while flicking your wrist at the same time so that at the end of few rounds you have a neat, pink and yummy cobweb ready for being dug into.
