I am very pleased with this product and the customer service is remarkable. My first fan hiccupped and was rather loud.
It's can be held comfortably in your hands or placed on any surface - but you need to make sure you don't cover the intake cover. I recommend getting rechargeable batteries to save the battery costs. It gives cool air within about a foot but not much further out. I was disappointed but still use it in the right circumstances. Then I opened the box and found that my handy cooler that I spent around $60 for was full of dings and scratches! It had OBVIOUSLY been a previously used unit. And the company has the gall to claim you're getting a $50 savings?! It's just another symptom of a society trying to get the most for the least. All in all, this is a good product if you need something that keeps you cool! I'm getting to age where I just can't bear summer and I NEED a personal fan. It took a while before I got the product in a working condition from the company. The first two they sent me were defective. We're amazed by the punch it packs given the small size. Just be better if it came with batteries too. In the meantime, I am going to see if I can rig up some sort of shoulder sling or something that will suit this purpose. At any rate, if you hate the heat, the Handy Cooler is the real deal -- cool relief to go.
Oh well, live and learn. This is a great little device. I bought this back in November last year and the company had some issues with the motor being too noisy. I contacted them and got an exchange for the new 2011 model and it is much quieter now.
It was raining last week and the performance was compromised. But on any normal day, it cools the air by around 20 degrees from what I feel and I love it. Moreover, the fact that the sponge was still wet and not dried for an extended period of time made the sponge/air have a strong moldy smell! Nonetheless, I manned up and thoroughly rinsed the sponge with clean water and allowed it to fully dry before testing it.
It cools, it's convenient, and very ergonomic. The only problem is the high price tag! The soft cool air it produces is refreshing and with scented oil very soothing. I use this fan every day and cannot imagine being without it now.

Which isn't that hard. Lastly, someone tagged the product as an evaporative cooler (swamp cooler) so it is not. Small Window Air Conditioner. I had been looking to have a thermometer to inform me the room temperature, even if the fan wasn't being used. There's nothing I can complain relating to this fan. WINDOW AIR CONDITIONER COVERS.
