So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Mazda canning the RX-8

By Cornelius Nunev

Mazda Motors has decreed that the RX-8 is no more, and it will cease to be made. The automobile had difficulties meeting emissions regulations and sales were really bad, leading to Mazda Motors choosing to bench the vehicle for good.

Will no longer see brand new Mazda RX-8 cars on the road

The Mazda Motor Corporation has declared that it has stopped making the Mazda RX-8, as reported by USA Today. The car will no longer be made after the 2011 RX-8 is all sold. The last of that vehicle has already been produced too. There are only 219 at dealerships as of today, Aug. 24. The RX-8 vehicles only had a 118 day supply left on August 1 when only 300 were left, as reported by Auto News. Amongst other cars, the RX-8 was already more uncommon than most just depending on the belief that Mazda Motors used Wankel rotary motor. That means instead of having many cylinders in the motor, it had one triangular piston that rotated. The RX-8 produces more than 220 horsepower from a 1.3 liter plant.

Not many people purchasing

The emission issues and terrible sales were the worst difficulties the RX-8 faced. Since the European Union's emission regulation standards were not being met by the vehicle, it had to be pulled from Europe totally. Not lots of people have wanted the RX-8 too. Sales have been decreasing. There was a 49 percent decrease in sales from 2009 to last year with only 1,134 RX-8s sold last year, according to CNET. This year, sales of the RX-8 had fallen a further 21 percent at the end of July. The RX-8 peaked in 2004, when Mazda Motors sold 23,690 RX-8 cars. The Japanese yen got stronger while the American dollar got weaker too. That led to even bigger losses by Mazda.

Not the end quite yet

According to the South African Independent Online, Mazda Motors made its first rotary engine sports automobile in 1964. It was the Mazda NSU Spider. Since Mazda is really the only major automobile company that makes the rotary engine sports vehicle, several believe that the end of the RX-8 means the end of the engine. However, it is not the first time that a Mazda Motors with a rotary engine was pulled from the lineup. This same thing happened to the Mazda Motors RX-7. This was after sales were initially strong for it too. The RX-7 was introduced in 1978, and sold 50,000 cars per year in the early 1980s, as reported by Auto News. It was pulled from the United States after model year 1995. Then, there wasn't a brand new one until 2003. That was when the RX-8 showed up. Mazda is currently creating the 16X, a 1.6 liter rotary engine that should not have problems with emissions and fuel economy. It will be years before the 16X is ready. It should debut in 2017.
