So This Is Christmas

Merry Christmas is such an infectious feeling I like to feel that way all year around.

So if you are visiting just before Christmas, just after Christmas or even here on Christmas day I am sure you will find something of interest for you and in the spirit of Christmas.

It may be said that Christmas is no longer a celebration but this must be spoken by people that have never had trouble closing their eyes on Christmas Eve in an expectation of what maybe left for them on the carpet under the tree.

I continue to look forward to the surprise on my Grandchild's faces to this day at Christmas events.

Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas - Merry Christmas

Successfully Thrashing Senioritis

By Jason Larrsohn

ASU's Post Doc student Fernanda Festa was recognized this year as one of the Phoenix Business Journal's "40 under 40." Every year, the journal seeks out the individuals that are taking major strides in their career while making a positive impact in their communities.

Muscle memory is one of the most important things that a drummer can cultivate. Muscle memory is what dictates force and rhythm when a person is playing the instrument, making it a quantitative factor in success. What is odd about muscle memory is that it is not something that you consciously develop. Instead, it is the result of hours upon hours of practice and performance.

Inspired by the loss of one of her best supporters-her grandfather-to a brain tumor, Festa has dedicated her life to solving the cancer problem. Beginning with obtaining a doctorate degree at the University of Sao Paulo, Festa joined Joshua LaBaer's team in Boston to start her postdoctoral research.

Over time, she helped to improve a promising platform technology known as NAPPA, which is designed to identify and confirm the identities of proteins throughout the body in a fraction of the time it would take researchers. The idea being that the faster technology can identify things like proteins, the sooner researchers can get to work on the problem.

A graduating student from Arizona State can fight back, however, against the damaging effects of senioritis by implementing a few new tricks to round out their college career. The first step that a college senior can take toward conquering senioritis is by planning ahead for it.

We learn and grow by making associations in our brains, which we gain through experience. When our minds are abler to connect things like touch or smell or words with events and activities, we are able to remember them and become more proficient.

The cancer research field is on fire as researchers around the world continue to put the pieces together in the ever enlarging puzzle of cancer. People are making headway though, and that's bringing hope to millions of people worldwide.

That is why people who stop playing the drums for a couple of weeks are going to have a harder time getting back to their skill level, and why they need to warm up for longer periods of time. It is all about the reflexive recall that the brain is able to make in connection with the activity.

She represents the dreams of what higher education is designed to do: create helpful professionals that make a difference in the world. Maybe one day, she'll be able to stop cancer in its tracks, making it a disease of the past for mankind.

The business journal is interested in professionals making a difference in their community in all arenas. Honored among the best 40 under 40 are lawyers, doctors, military vehicle engineers, franchise owners, service associations, motivators and much more.

Mentoring others has a way of keeping you, the mentoring senior, on track and productive just as much as it has a positive effect on the person being mentored.

Put on your Florida State clothing and head on down to Tallahassee to check out their drumming program. They will be convinced you are a fan by your Florida State clothing and will most likely let you enroll.
